How I cracked my GT internship, in 4 easy steps 🍿✨ Stop, you're doing it wrong! You done? Okay so here me out! 🏃➡️-> Decided need to do an internship, because right time doesn't exists. 🏃➡️-> Shortlisted the roles I liked, selected a company which'd be a good fit in that domain, took a risk and selected only 1 company with no backup.. 🥲 🏃➡️-> Reached out to relevant people, extracted their mail IDs, made sure my resume was well-written & formatted. 🏃➡️ -> Drafted the mail and made it crisp, clearly stating my intent for reaching out, sent it to approximately 30+ people in that domain. And done, But heyyyyy, wait wait, something doesn't fits, where's the twist where's the drama? and what exactly happened? It can't be a cakewalk, Ofc it wasn't! The key to this is *paid* internships. Unpaid internships are the norm in North America. I've done them twice in my career both of which were critical to my success. The first was in high school at 16 when I did an internship at an Advertising agency which I would then work in full time for the next 4 years as I also went to Uni full time. At 16 I was living at home so my family supported me taking unpaid work as I earned class credit. I did another unpaid internship while I was completing my Masters dissertation at King's College London at We Are Social (still such a soft place in my heart for all my old WASers!) so I could really test out my theories about social media at an agency leading in the space. I was able to do this because I was living with my boyfriend (now husband) and had saved up money from working to take a career break. In both instances I had the financial and emotional support to take on unpaid work. Well done to Octopus Investments and other organisations that realise you cannot create real change and access to opportunities if you are not offering paid internships. #internships2023 #paidinternships #internshipopportunity

Reflecting on my journey as a business student, I can't help but be grateful for the pivotal role that internships have played in shaping my understanding of the corporate world. One experience that stands out vividly is my time as a marketing intern at Toffee Ride Innovations. It wasn't just a role; it was a profound learning experience. During those months, I learned firsthand how theory meets reality. The marketing concepts from textbooks suddenly came to life as I immersed myself in real campaigns, market research, and customer interactions. But it wasn't just about the tasks; it was about the insights. I learned that marketing isn't just about selling a product; it's about understanding people—their needs, desires, and pain points. Fast forward to today, and I find myself on a new adventure at KPMG, where I'm currently immersed in a data science internship. The parallels to my business education are striking. Once again, I'm witnessing the transformation of academic concepts into tangible solutions. The algorithms and statistical models I studied are no longer confined to textbooks but are actively shaping data-driven strategies. This experience reaffirms that the bridge between academia and reality is not limited to one internship—it's a continuum that enriches our professional journey. As I navigate this exciting terrain, I'm reminded that learning never stops, and each internship opens doors to a world of possibilities. Today, I can't help but appreciate how internships bridge the gap between academia and the real world. They instill not just knowledge but also the skills, attitude, and confidence needed to thrive in the competitive business landscape. So, to all the aspiring business students out there, seize those internship opportunities. They're not just stepping stones; they're your classroom for life's most valuable lessons.
