Here's how the existing infrastructure can be leveraged for a greener event: 1. Smart Fleet Management: Utilizing the digital twin and real-time analytics to optimize support vehicle routes and numbers, significantly reducing emissions. 2. EV Transition Support: Employing data analytics for strategic placement of EV charging stations along the route, facilitating a shift towards electric vehicles. 3. Virtual Fan Engagement: Enhancing digital experiences like the Race Center and Fantasy Leagues to engage fans remotely, potentially decreasing travel-related emissions. 4. Carbon Footprint Tracking: Implementing a comprehensive carbon tracking system using the existing IoT infrastructure to measure and improve sustainability efforts. 5. Sustainable Spectator Transportation: Using the Race Center platform to provide real-time information on public transport and bike-sharing options for spectators. 6. Resource Optimization: Analyzing historical data to predict and optimize resource allocation, reducing waste and overprovisioning. 🚲💨 Legislators often struggle to keep up with innovation 🇳🇱 Living in the Netherlands, where cycling is ingrained in daily life, I’m happy to see that policing is finally catching up with technology. 👮♂️ Amsterdam's police are deploying roller test stations to tackle the issue of excessively fast e-bikes, often ridden by young cyclists. Hope they have enough capacity to make an actual impact… … and in general make e-bikes less appealing for kids! Relevant as in our household, both teenage boys are eyeing e-bikes for their 25 km round-trip commute to school. Influenced by their peers - who literally all have one. It's a battle I fear I'll lose! 😬 While e-bikes have extended cycling years for seniors, their wider impact on Dutch society and sustainability remains debatable. On my radar: Should there be a minimum age for e-bike riders? (Yes, I believe so.) And do e-bikes truly contribute to a greener environment by reducing car usage? (I'm skeptical.) 🤝🏼 BYCS and Cities for Better Health (formerly ‘Cities Changing Diabetes’) are thrilled to announce our new partnership focused on increasing the use of cycling for better health among children. Establishing healthy physical activity habits like cycling during childhood can have immediate and long-term benefits on children’s physical and mental wellbeing. Nevertheless, physical inactivity among children is rising, and it is important to enable more children to take part in daily activities. Our first project together in this partnership will focus on increasing cycling amongst children in vulnerable communities in #Bogota and #Bratislava, with a third city to be confirmed later this summer. We will work with local, on-the-ground partners to develop and implement a range of initiatives aimed at introducing and establishing cycling as a regular option and activity amongst children. Novo Nordisk’s Cities for Better Health programme and BYCS aim to bridge the gap between health and mobility sectors, showcasing cycling’s role in promoting physical activity and well-being while emphasising its health benefits. 🚲 Interested in learning more? Leveraging Tech to Unearth Hidden Sports Talent: Kudos to AusCycling for an ingenious initiative that taps #technology to uncover cycling talent across the country with their Virtual Talent ID program! 🚴♀️🚴 Participants can simply take an online cycling test on Zwift from the comfort of their home. What an ultra-accessible way to put your hat in the ring for a national development opportunity! While AusCycling's virtual talent ID program holds valuable lessons for India, surface-level technology adoption may not fully address the grassroots realities in India. With limited access to high-quality sports equipment across small towns and villages, is at-home online testing sufficient to unearth true potential? When talent in remote rural pockets often drops out early to support families, how can we leverage tech to track and train them without disruption? When socio-economic barriers dim the dreams of budding sports stars, how might #AI and sensors enable equitable access and opportunity? The challenges are many, yet surmountable. Our innovation must go beyond technology to its thoughtful application. How might we use tech to make talent discovery wider, earlier and more inclusive while considering ground infrastructure and social constraints? Whether it is sensors in existing playgrounds, mobile camps in villages, or virtual camps with access to equipment - how might we spot and support our future Mirabais, Dhyanchands and PT Ushas early at low cost and high motivation?
