Her discussion provides invaluable perspectives on the crucial role of comprehensive language services. It's essential to recognize that effective communication influences every aspect of life, not just in healthcare or legal. One of the things I talked about at #LL15 is how #bilingualsignage is low cost and high impact for language revival - provided it's used properly and #apolitically. It is high cost, when signs weren't going to be present in the first place - which doesn't happen in the #publicsector. Signs are going to be present anyway. Rolling back bilingual signage because of hateful language #attitudes is an example of frivolous waste - especially if those bilingual signs are new. Given we know bilingual signage is so low cost and high impact, the frivolity of wasting money to remove them in 2024 also guarantees we will happily spend the money again one day soon, to reinstate the impact those signs have had. We will not accept cost as a reason not to go back - it's worth every cent and we have evidence to prove it. The quote in this image is from two #Treasury economists writing in 1998. Yes, we've known about the #economics of language revival in the public sphere for decades, including signage. You'd have to work very hard to be someone with public funds for signage at your disposal, and not know this stuff.
