Juneteenth has become the most well-known celebration for the ending of slavery in the United States. In fact, it is viewed by some as America’s second Independence Day. The history of this important celebration is complex and often misunderstood. #Juneteenth isn’t a straightforward story of emancipation, nor did it necessarily improve conditions in short order, or across the country. Freedom was not a straight line from the Emancipation Proclamation to Juneteenth to the Civil Rights movement. In fact, there's around 100 yrs between the Revolutionary War, Juneteenth, and MLK. Individuals had to fight for every piece of freedom they experienced and the struggle for justice that started long before the war did not end with emancipation. Today, we celebrate #freedom, #perseverance, and the value of people. May we each recogize where injustice exists and champion the oppressed.

Happy Juneteenth Freedom Day! Honoring Juneteenth is crucial because it commemorates the hard-won freedom of enslaved African Americans, reminding us of the ongoing fight for equality and justice that must be upheld for all. Diversity and inclusion are not just ideals; they are essential for advancing the rights and dignity of every individual, which lies at the heart of what Juneteenth represents. By embracing diversity, we learn from each other, grow in empathy, and ensure that everyone has a say in building a fairer and more inclusive society. Juneteenth resonates deeply with the Jewish community, drawing parallels to our own story of liberation from slavery and emphasizing the path from oppression to freedom. Our shared values such as Herut (Freedom), Tzedek (Justice), Yizkor (Remembrance), Kehillah (Community), and Tikvah (Hope) align closely with the themes celebrated on Juneteenth. Our history of fighting for justice, including marching alongside Martin Luther King Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement, underscores our commitment to equality and social justice. As we commemorate this day, I wanted to take the time to reflect that although we are different, we are also aligned in our commitment to creating a fair and inclusive society for all. #JuneteenthFreedom #JusticeForAll #JewishValues #UnityInJustice #EqualityNow #DiversityAndInclusion Natalie Loeb David B. Honoring Juneteenth: A Legacy of Freedom and Resilience Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, a day that marks the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans in the United States. It’s a poignant reminder of the delayed release of freedom after over 400 years of horrendous violence and abuse. On June 19, 1865, news of liberation finally reached Galveston, Texas, long after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed. This day stands as a testament to the strength and resilience of those who endured unimaginable hardships and the relentless pursuit of justice and equality. As we reflect on this day, let us remember the powerful words of Brandan “BMike” Odums: “We are our ancestors’ wildest dreams.” Their courage, resilience, and unyielding hope have paved the way for the freedoms we cherish today. Let’s honor their legacy by continuing the fight for justice and equality, ensuring their dreams are fully realized. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #OurAncestorsDreams #Resilience #Equality

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is a holiday that is celebrated annually on June 19th. This day commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and the announcement of the abolition of slavery in the state of Texas in 1865. The history of Juneteenth dates back to the Civil War when President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, which declared that all enslaved people in the Confederate states were to be set free. However, it was not until two and a half years later, on June 19, 1865, that General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that all enslaved people were free, marking the official end of slavery in the United States. On this day, many cultural events, parades, and festivals are held to celebrate the rich heritage and culture of African Americans. Traditional foods such as barbecue, red soda, and watermelon are also a part of the celebrations. Juneteenth is a significant holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in the United States and the triumph of freedom over oppression. It is a day to honor the struggles and sacrifices of African Americans and to celebrate their rich heritage and culture. Let us continue to educate ourselves and work towards creating a more equitable and just society for all. #éclatLaw #Juneteenth #Celebration #Holiday
