TE Connectivity VITA 87 High Density MT Circular Connectors: High Density Circular MT Connectors are connectors designed for high density optical connections in a circular format. They are used in fibre optic systems where multiple fibres need to be efficiently connected in a limited space. MT (Multi-Channel Termini) refers to the ability of these connectors to support multiple channels or connections in a single connector. They are widely used in the telecommunications industry, aerospace, defence technology and other areas where high reliability and a large number of connections are required. However, newer IT architectures often require even higher density to fit into industry-standard card and backplane slots - because more speed, greater density and higher performance are required to realise AI functions, sensor-rich camera systems, autonomous robots and AGVs, radar systems, command, control, communication and computing systems. The new VITA 87 High Density MT Circular Connectors are developed for this purpose: the VITA 87 standard now offers options for 12 to 24 fibres, whereby up to 96 fibres can be accommodated in a compact size 15 housing with 4 MTs - in contrast to the J4 connection in the SOSA open system architecture, which only accommodates 11 fibres in a larger size 19 housing. TE´s VITA 87 standard product line offers a significantly increased number of fibres in a smaller footprint while maintaining standard dimensions, helping next-generation systems meet size, weight and power consumption requirements while meeting the high bandwidth demands of new data-intensive functions.
