The floating LiDAR system, BA-FLS-NX5, manufactured by Blue Aspirations, has gone through extreme conditions and has eventually been deployed over 45 offshore wind measurements successfully so far. It contains 10 projects that were deployed in the first quarter of 2024. 🌊 🤖 Oceans cover over 70% of our planet's surface.🤖🌊 But we know about them less than we know about the Moon. Their depths, reaching more than 11 kilometers, are hard for scientists to study and full of secrets. but ROBOTS are helping us make progress! An Australian Hydrus, might be not able to hit Mariana Trench bottom, But for sure makes ocean exploration as easy as flying a consumer drone. Hydrus is a fully autonomous underwater vehicle which is able to: → capture 4K video → Construct detailed 3d photogrammetry model → Go 3000m underneath and 9000 meters far It was first used to map Australia's coral reefs and create 3D models of shipwrecks. Hydrus makes it easier and cheaper to explore deep or dangerous underwater places that divers can't reach. Despite the fact that I could sit in the Jacuzzi for hours, The open ocean has always scared me. I was most afraid of the miles of water below me... However, I am curious about what else we will find in the sea depths. And you ?

July 23-31, a team of researchers on Research Vessel Pacific Storm off the coast of Oregon will demonstrate their new approach to efficiently and effectively map and characterize methane seeps over wide areas. During this second of two expeditions, the team will use easily deployable and relatively inexpensive autonomous underwater vehicles equipped with imaging sonars and custom sensors to improve our understanding of how methane from these seeps influences life on the seafloor and in the water column as well as its role in the global carbon cycle.
