It is clear that our current #health and #care system needs to be reformed. Increased focus on the social determinants of health is required to understand and address the underlying causes of poor health and #wellbeing in people’s lives, working from a model of #prevention rather than treatment. We had the pleasure of hosting Stephen Kinnock, Minister of State for Care, at the Centre today to showcase our innovative approach to support across health and wellbeing. The Bromley by Bow Centre is a hub for the community. Together with our partners, Bromley by Bow Health, we offer our #community a place and a space to come, be and connect. Our person-centred, #holistic, and #integrated support works because it builds on the relationships our community has with our Centre. Our message is simple: Only together can the Third Sector and the #NHS address the growing #HealthInequalities in our communities. Our health and care system must be based on community #empowerment. Community Centres must be included as decision makers for our country’s health and wellbeing. Our model needs long term, sustainable funding, in contrast to the current funding model available to us, so we can continue the work our community deserves. #CommunityHealth #Charity

Health is wealth. Multi-Life Savers also understands that access to health can be impeded by socioeconomic factors such proximity to quality healthcare facilities and access to funds for footing medical bills. Acknowledging that many people in today's society lack in one or more of these areas, we have positioned our organisation as a bridge between the less-privileged and healthcare. We have acted as a bridge through the payment of hospital bills, donations to healthcare institutions, and the construction and equipping of these facilities in areas where they are absent. How are you making an impact in the health of your community today? #healthylifestyle #healthiswealth #multilifesavers #FrMbaka #ngo #humanrights #care #humanity #love

This #IndigenousPeoplesDay, I want to share the work of We Are Healers, a non-profit working to increase the number of Native American health professionals, who are still vastly underrepresented in medicine. This work is crucial in creating a health care system that reflects the diversity of our nation. Improving Native American representation in medicine helps foster culturally competent care, addresses health disparities, and builds trust within communities. https://lnkd.in/gFtRQcjT

#SocialPrescribingDay – what is that I hear you ask? Social prescribing encourages individuals to engage with their local communities and build meaningful social connections. This can help combat social isolation and loneliness, which are significant risk factors for poor health. Social prescribing offers a person-centred approach to health and #wellbeing that acknowledges the interconnectedness of social, emotional, and physical aspects of health. By addressing social needs and fostering community connections, social prescribing has the potential to improve the quality of life and promote healthier, more resilient communities. Let's continue to foster collaboration between healthcare providers, charities, and communities to ensure everyone has access to the support they deserve. Together, we can make a difference! 💚💚 Think about your community, on or offline, can your organisation foster a social prescribing approach to welcome new members? GP surgeries around the UK can assign individuals #LinkWorkers. A Link Worker works closely with the local community to connect people to voluntary organisations, charities and groups. 🔴 New Research on Social Care Outsourcing in England 🔴 🎉We're excited to share a recently published report by our GO Lab colleagues, Anders Bach-Mortensen and Ben Goodair, in collaboration with the Nuffield Foundation and @Michelle Degli Esposti, Christine Corlet Walker, and Jane Barlow at the Department of Social Policy and Intervention, University of Oxford. Their research uncovers a striking paradox: despite consistently ranking as the worst type of provision, for-profit providers have dominated both children’s and adult’s social care services in the last decade. ✅Key Findings: 1️⃣ Outsourcing was initially intended to grow third-sector charity involvement, yet for-profit providers have surged at the expense of charities and public services. 2️⃣ For-profit care homes disproportionately target self-funders in affluent areas, amplifying inequalities. 3️⃣ Worryingly, forced closures due to health and safety risks occur most frequently in the for-profit sector. They’ve made this research open and interactive, and invite you to explore the findings and share your feedback. 📄 Full Report: https://lnkd.in/eTKNJdnU 📊 Data: https://lnkd.in/eJmyFj8A https://lnkd.in/ev4a-w-u 💻 Interactive Tracker: https://lnkd.in/exYciHqy #SocialCare #DataDriven #Outsourcing #Research #SocialImpact #ForProfit #PublicServices #CareInequality

Improving access to primary care is a central plank of the new Labour government’s health strategy. Lord Ara Darzi’s rapid investigation into the state of the NHS, which reported this week, similarly concluded that community-based primary care services were essential to any improvements. Young people particularly struggle to get what they need from primary care. The youth-friendly Well Centre model presents a worked example of what good can look like. Our new evaluation for the Well Centre Charity discusses some of the challenges that need to be overcome in order to get this right, but also concludes that it is so important to try.
