More moves than Michael Jackson… 🎤 We only want to hire people with ‘stable CVs’. Well - how ‘stable’ is 'stable' really…. I think the average employment tenure for someone in civils/groundworks is around 3 – 5 years… Not 10 or 15 years.... It’s also fair to say it’s been an ‘interesting’ time in last 10 years or so in the industry…Covid, cost of living crisis and companies going under. MANY good people have been affected by situations which are no fault of their own. If you’ve been fortunate enough to stay with a company over a long period of time – well done to you. But I’d encourage you not to judge others who may not have been as lucky too harshly… Yes - if someone’s had 10 jobs in 10 years it probably says something about them. But if someone has moved jobs it’s always worth exploring the reasons why… Sometimes it’s not their fault and might be for reasons totally out of their control… And it doesn't necessarily have a bearing on how good they could be for you.

Like others, I have experienced a major influx of Inmail and emails from recruiters since I retired my #opentowork banner and started at Fruth Group. The irony isn't lost on me, and for some reason, even in the current market, with an endless amount of non-performance-based layoffs like mine last February, there's still bias when it comes to someone's employment status. There seems to be an idea that employed people are more employable. "All the good ones are taken." This couldn't be any farther from the truth. I try to do my part by forwarding these comms to someone on the search and often referring the recruiter to a colleague and writing a sentence or two about what makes their working style and output remarkable. It's something we can all do that takes five minutes and can help get more talented people in front of recruiters and hiring managers. So instead of hitting delete, take five and forward that baby to someone who might be interested. Extra points for sending the recruiter a quick referral, something most of them appreciate.

Its interesting just how many #RecruitmentConsultants waste my time, ghost me or say "I've got nufink suitable for you Stanley".... One wonders how they remain in employment as they clearly don't wish to do their job where I am concerned. #unemployment #lookingfornewopportunities
