We are Celebrating Day 4 of Ohio History Month by honoring the trailblazing inventor Garrett A. Morgan, also known as the Black Edison. Born on March 4, 1877, in Paris, Kentucky, Morgan's journey led him to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he initially worked in a sewing machine factory, gaining insights into its mechanics. Motivated by innovation, he patented improvements to the sewing machine and established his repair shop. Later, Morgan moved to Cleveland, Ohio, with his second wife. In 1909, he inadvertently discovered a hair-straightening effect while experimenting with a chemical solution to reduce sewing machine friction. This discovery led to the founding of the G.A. Morgan Refining Company, providing a path for him to achieve upward mobility. In 1914, Morgan patented the safety hood, a pivotal invention that contributed to developing World War II gas masks. Notably, he was the first Black person in Cleveland to own an automobile. Witnessing a carriage accident inspired him to create a traffic signal with a warning light, in which he later sold the rights of the invention to General Electric for $40,000. Morgan's legacy as a prolific inventor continued until his passing, with a DNA enriched by a passion for innovation. Let's also acknowledge other notable inventors like Granville Woods, Sarah E. A successful human future is not guaranteed, we must act for our future. The fact that this is an issue says everything you need to know. Its here because of intended cruelty and indifference towards Black people. They would have paid nothing if she had not protested the financial injury. Its the future which is planned for anyone w/out means. Did you know that $100 billion is a hundred thousand million dollars? And all that they can be is small, petty, cruel and indifferent. We ask them to pay no taxes, give to the rich as they injure society. We have few leaders willing to speak to the evil they have planned for people without resources. Too many pastors are hoping for an offering to speak against harms to the social fabric of society. The bet is that they are god, because they have the money. Silence to evil is complicity like it or not. Our children need our voice. This should not be a discussion except Tesla made it so by their cruelty. Shame is on them.
