We had a blast with our Snack Sack Surprises experience in Miami Beach, Florida a few weeks ago! . Your grumbling tummy . . . it’s not a fun sound, or feeling, yet 1 in 5 children lack proper access to food at some point each year. But, you can help stop the grumbling with SNACK SACK SURPRISES . . . a socially responsible experience that benefits hungry children in local societies. Your participants are challenged with a variety of mental and creative tasks, which, upon completion, earn them the various non-perishable food items that will be stuffed in paper lunch bags, creatively decorated by your group. For those who wish to up the ante a bit, we swap out the lunch bags with plain, old-fashioned, tin lunch boxes. . 'Tis the season of Spring Cleaning! 🌼 🗑 And to that, I remind myself, "Less is More!" It's easy to lose track of years and years worth of accumulating "things". Furniture, clothes, mail, magazines, dishes, cups, shoes... the list goes on. There is so much material s*** in our lives that adds little to no value. I spent the weekend decluttering, tossing away old stuff, donating, etc. and wow does that process change your energy. It's amazing how material things in our environment can also clutter our perceptions and focus. Clean it out - refresh - blank slate - start a new. Art, plants, open windows, music, homemade meals, exercise, sleep, simplicity. Take the time needed to lament, rest, feel all the feels… And then there’s work to do. Find local non profits you can partner with who are in proximity to to our neighbors impacted by systemic challenges and barriers and love them well (this means be culturally compassionate/humble too). All this to say, who wants to partner with me and The Firehouse Dream as we dream up even more ways to be a safe space and place for BIPOC youth in Chicagoland area? We are using creativity as a healing tool, as we invest in youth mental health and financial wellness (this includes focusing on racial healing.) We can’t do this work without our entire ecosystem, and most of all we need the funding to do this work!
