ITZY recently played two sold out shows in Toronto, which is proof of the demand K-pop has in the Canadian market. Given recent reports of declining popularity of some established girl groups, I also believe that it was critical for ITZY to go to newer cities during its world tour to maintain its fanbase and also gain new supporters. This week on the newsletter, I write, "As K-pop becomes more oversaturated, does ITZY have the goods to compete with the others? In Toronto, the band proved it can." Why ITZY's arrival to Canada is critical to the group's success

I stumbled across Here At Last while listening to background #music via #YouTube while I do my work. Wow, they are good. They are apparently huge on #socialmedia already, especially #TikTok (it figures, old out-of-touch guy like me discovers them via the algorithm on YouTube because I'm not hip enough to use TikTok). This is yet another example of the whole #digitalization thing. I've always wondered what stops #musicians from going solo in today's #digital #platform world instead of signing with a #studio. I know there are musicians out there who refuse to sign with studios, but very few have truly amazing #talent. Of course, studios help stars with a lot of the logistics involved in performing concerts, creating and selling albums, etc. But it seems that studios have much less leverage than before to attract artists. It's been a slow grind, of course. In any event, studios certainly had a LOT more power in the past and maybe are a shadow of what they used to be. But why aren't MORE musicians just going the solo route? I'm sure that someone's researched this already, but I'd love to see research from a #digitalization angle. This is the video that YouTube algorithmically played for me, but it seems that they write their own songs too. https://lnkd.in/ggWQYy7W

The #talent you bring in determines the #product you put out. I love what #drumeo does, bringing #musicians with vastly different styles, showing them a track they’ve never heard, minus drums, and letting them create their own drum part. The result is, of course, a new musical creation, a whole different perspective on a song. But since this is LinkedIn, it’s also a lesson in team building. Whether in #hiring, #projectmanagement, or just looking for your next opportunity, it’s important to match the talent with the team’s goals. If you are trying to make pop music, you probably don’t want to bring in a metal drummer. However… maybe you want to change things up. Maybe it’s time to add some metal to your pop 😎.

This episode of DOPE I spoke with my sister who's a singer/songwriter by the name of Chrxstal Sarah. When talking about our creative journeys there was a constant theme of wrestling with or compartmentalizing the parts of our respective fields that are performative. I think there's an an important lesson here for artists (or those hiring artists) as we're expected to "put ourselves out there" to ever increasing degrees online to find work or validate the work we've already done. Not all creatives are performative. This isn't a big secret but it can be hard for some to embrace. Some of the most brilliant artists have been introverts - some to a fault (a lot of writers come to mind). This isn't to say we shouldn't explore these parts of our craft as sharing one's work is a revealing and rewarding part of the process but that's the thing - for some of us that process is reward enough - not the promise of, or even the reality of, creating the next best thing since sliced bread. Enjoy! And check-in on your introverted creators once in a while! They'd love to talk about what they're working on even if they haven't posted it yet. #dopepodcast #creativity #creativeprocess #music #musicindustry #spotify #socialmedia

Every Opera Singer, Instrumentalists and non musical creative should have a business alongside their art. Each year a small company where a new singer would get to debut a role and get paid for it struggles or shuts down. This puts a lot of stress on the audition season. Singers with the dream of singing full time need to be able to sustain themselves and audition season until the career takes off. If you don't have a trust fund or your families Amex, you need to figure out how to do it on your own. The best thing I did to survive the launch phase was build a business alongside the career. You need something that isn't going to take all your time away from auditions, lessons, coaching and practice time. You need something that will travel with you and has time flexibility. If you're someone who is looking to build something alongside what you're already doing, click+ and DM "biz" #operasinger #tenor #musician #artist

Let’s talk about the Coldplay concert—where the lights are brighter than your future and the tickets cost more than your monthly rent. Why is it not important? Well, you could stay home, binge-watch Netflix, and save your hard-earned cash. Plus, who needs live music when you can listen to “Fix You” on repeat while scrolling through job listings? 🙄 But wait! Maybe it is important. Attending could boost your networking game. Nothing says “hire me” like crying over “The Scientist” with strangers. Who knows? You might meet your next boss—or at least someone who’ll join you for the post-concert ramen! In the end, whether you’re vibing with Chris Martin or chilling on your couch, it’s all about perspective. Just remember: concerts can be fun, but so can a good nap. So, which team are you on? The "I’d rather watch paint dry" crew or the "Let’s sing our hearts out" squad? Drop your thoughts below! 👇 #Coldplay #ConcertLife #CareerOrConcert #LifeChoices #linkedindaily #mondaymotivation #career #money #budgetfree #gowiththetrend
