Memorial Day is dedicated to honoring the brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives for our country. Their courage and dedication are the foundation of the freedoms we enjoy today. While we take this time to reflect, let's also ensure we celebrate responsibly. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind over the weekend: 1. **Grill Safely** Ensure your grill is placed away from your home, clean, and never left unattended. Safety first! 2. **Water Safety** Whether at the pool, lake, or beach, always supervise children and swim in designated areas. 3. **Drive Responsibly** Expect increased traffic this weekend. Buckle up, stay alert, and never drink and drive. 4. **Stay Hydrated** With the warm weather, it's crucial to drink plenty of water and take breaks in shaded areas to prevent heat-related illnesses. 5. **Fireworks Caution** If celebrating with fireworks, handle them with care, follow local regulations, and maintain a safe distance. Let's honor our fallen heroes by enjoying this time with our loved ones safely and responsibly. Wishing everyone a meaningful and safe Memorial Day Weekend. #MemorialDay #HonorTheFallen #SafetyFirst

A weekend of memory and where May sneaks a preview of summer ... Memorial Day weekend marks a time of reflection and tribute of those who served and passed in serving their country, during peace or war. And it is also the unofficial start to summer, being a popular time to travel, socialize, and engage in recreation. There will be parades, cookouts, solemn observances, commemorations, a whole host of feelings and activities. The ideals, freedoms, and security fought for and supported by those who have died and are honored this day, take shape in different ways, and perhaps one is how we get to live life and enjoy inalienable rights, as imperfect as the social process may be at times. And these aspects are observed this holiday weekend. We hope you have a safe, healthy, and meaningful Memorial Day and weekend, and time spent well. As we approach Memorial Day, it's a time for solemn reflection, not just a long weekend of gatherings and discounts. Here's a gentle reminder: 📌 Shelve the "Happy Memorial Day" messages. Today isn't about happiness but honor and remembrance. 📌 Resist the urge to thank active service members today — though always appreciated, today we remember those we have lost. 📌 Truly grasp the profound significance of the day — it's a solemn remembrance of the ultimate sacrifices made. 📌 It's essential not to let the day slip by unnoticed in daily life. 📌 Political differences should take a backseat as we pay homage to fallen heroes. 📌 When you communicate today, strip away the buzzwords and speak with genuine respect and simplicity. Honor the real heroes who gave everything for us. Take a moment to reflect and honor their courage and sacrifice. #MemorialDay #HonorAndRemember #SolemnTribute #BraveryAndSacrifice #ReflectAndRespect

As we gather to honor Memorial Day, we remember not only those who have served and sacrificed for our country but also the ongoing journey toward healing and justice within our communities. 💛This day serves as a poignant reminder of the cost of war and the importance of nurturing a society that reflects the values we stand for—equality, respect, and dignity for all. ⚖️ In remembering the past, we acknowledge the wounds of social injustices that continue to impact many in our society. Today, we recommit to healing these wounds through education, understanding, and empathy. By fostering environments where healing leads to growth, we strengthen our communities and create a foundation for sustainable peace and prosperity. ☮️ 🕊️ Together, we can transform our collective suffering into a source of strength. United in our diversity and driven by our common goals, we support each other to build a future where everyone enjoys a better quality of life. Let us use this day to reflect on our shared values and reinvigorate our efforts to move forward as one. 🌱 🤲 On this Memorial Day, let us pledge to remember, to heal, and to unite. Together, we build the pillars of a resilient community that honors the sacrifices of the past by crafting a just and hopeful future. 🌟

How are NC residents spending Memorial Day? And do they think NC government is doing a good job honoring veterans' service? The NC-focused #hpupoll honors #memorialday by asking questions about the ways people pass time on this day, but also some items about ways government honors veterans' service. We included Memorial Day findings in our recent release that also covered summer travel (https://lnkd.in/eQqdTMdD). The poll finds that nearly three in five North Carolinians (61%) plan to just stay around the house on Memorial Day. More than one-third of respondents said they will be attending a picnic or barbecue (37%), and one-quarter said they will be working (25%). Fewer North Carolina residents said they will be going to a veteran’s cemetery or grave (24%), heading to a Memorial Day commemorative event (22%) or taking advantage of Memorial Day sales (22%). Other activities less than a quarter of people in North Carolina will be doing on the holiday include going to a Memorial Day parade (21%), going somewhere else as a vacation day (20%) and heading to the beach (18%). (You can see the full results, including among self-identified registered voters, starting on page 16 at: https://lnkd.in/d4hneS4B) This poll also asked if people in North Carolina and the U.S. do enough on Memorial Day to honor people who have died in service to the country. Just less than half said they do enough in North Carolina (45%) and in the U.S. (41%). About one-third said people do not do enough to honor those who have died in service of the country in North Carolina (33%) and in the U.S. (42%). (You can see the U.S. results in the attachment and page 17 of the memo.) The poll also asked how well the North Carolina state government has done in providing services for veterans. Most respondents said the government in North Carolina does very well or somewhat well at promoting holiday remembrances such as Memorial Day (57%), honoring their service (55%), mentioning veterans’ service in speeches (53%), building monuments and memorials to their service (52%) and documenting their service by developing archives and museums (51%). Less than half of these same respondents say that the government in North Carolina does very well or somewhat well in providing health care specifically for veterans (44%) and hiring veterans for government jobs (43%). (See table below, memo page 17) Whatever you choose to do, here at the #hpupoll hope you will remember the reason for the day. Stay safe and healthy.

Commemorating Memorial Day at home is a meaningful way to honor the sacrifices of our fallen heroes. Here are some thoughtful ways you can observe this important day: 1. Moment of Silence: Set aside a specific time during the day for a moment of silence. Reflect on the lives lost in service to our country and express gratitude. 2. Display the Flag: Fly the American flag at half-mast in your yard or display it prominently in your home. The half-mast position symbolizes respect for those who have passed away. 3. Write Letters or Cards: Write heartfelt letters or cards to active-duty military personnel, veterans, or their families. Express your appreciation and support. 4. Create a Memorial Space: Dedicate a small area in your home or garden as a memorial space. Arrange flowers, candles, or other symbolic items to honor fallen soldiers. 5. Watch Documentaries or Films: Watch documentaries or films related to military history, especially those that highlight the sacrifices made by servicemen and women. Some recommendations include “Saving Private Ryan,” “Band of Brothers,” or “The Pacific.” 6. Read Military Poetry or Literature: Explore military-themed poetry, books, or articles. You can find powerful poems like “In Flanders Fields” by John McCrae or read about the experiences of veterans. 7. Cook a Patriotic Meal: Prepare a meal with red, white, and blue elements. For example, make a berry-filled dessert with whipped cream (representing the flag’s colors) or cook a traditional American dish. Virtual Gatherings: Host a virtual gathering with family and friends. Share stories, memories, and discuss the significance of Memorial Day. 8. Visit Virtual Memorials: Explore online memorials and virtual tours of military cemeteries. The Normandy American Cemetery, Arlington National Cemetery, and others offer virtual experiences. 9. Educate Children: Teach children about the importance of Memorial Day. Explain its significance and encourage them to create drawings or crafts to honor fallen soldiers. Remember, the essence of Memorial Day lies in remembrance, gratitude, and honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. CyberSix wishes you all a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend.
