Retinol, a derivative of vitamin A, is one of the most well-studied ingredients in skincare, but new EU regulations seem to have dulled the shine of this “gold standard” anti-aging ingredient. “The SCCS was satisfied that vitamin A in cosmetics is safe, but the committee raised a concern about this exposure, in combination with exposure from other sources (e.g., diet), possibly exceeding maximum safe levels,” Victoria Brownlie MBE, Chief Policy and Sustainability Officer at the British Beauty Council, tells BeautyMatter.
