Sharing this at the risk of upsetting AFSL providers including my own. An official petition has been launched to increase the AFSL ASIC levy and decrease the individual adviser levy. More on this can be found in the comments as there was a good article on Professional Planner about this. What would be even better would be charging the AFSL fee based on size as well, for example a large dealer group is only paying $1,500, yet someone with one or two advisers is paying the same amount. Plenty to think about Stephen Jones. #financialservices #financialplanning #financialplanner #financialadvice #financialadviser #financialadvisor #asic #asiclevy

I'm a firm believer in truth before reconciliation; after all, how can you reconcile without the knowledge of how we got here and awareness of the continued disenfranchisement of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit across Canada? Did you know that while making up only 5% of the population in Canada, 35% of homeless individuals identified as Indigenous or that Indigenous people represent up to 2.5% of the Toronto population, yet 15% of people experiencing homelessness? Did you know that Indigenous youth, in particular, are disproportionately affected by mental health issues? Many face significant challenges due to generational trauma, socioeconomic difficulties, and inadequate mental health services. Suicide rates among First Nations, Métis, and Inuit are significantly higher than those of non-Indigenous people across Canada. Do you know whose land you're on and the broken treaties that allowed Canada to grow and prosper? Did you know that the last residential school closed in 1996 or that residential school denialism is a growing issue in Canada? It's been nine years since the TRC created the 94 calls to action—only 13 of which have been completed. There is still a long way to go.
We are closed today for National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. The truth? As of May 1, 2024, Canada has only completed 13 of the 94 Calls to Action they committed to. This last month alone saw the deaths of nine First Nations people at the hands of the RCMP and municipal forces. Grassy Narrows remains poisoned by mercury. Every year, we add to this growing list of voices, resources, and knowledge to stay informed. We share this list not just as reading material for today alone but for anyone to make a plan of action for the next twelve months. https://lnkd.in/gP57DxfR

Fin-Serv Executive with Extensive and Diverse Leadership Experience in Wealth Mgmt., Banking, Insurance and IT. Also, someone with strong, well thought out, formulated opinions, sharing in the hope of a better world.
So…..Bill went and did an entire 5 minute segment on the current state of Canada on his show this week, relative to what people’s perception may still be, based on our past. Let’s just say….the picture he painted of the country in its current state, bares little resemblance to its past, and while quite depressing and demoralizing….it was also, quite accurate. In brief, Bill - a staunch liberal- minded thinker for many decades - was talking to Americans about the risks of pushing your government too far to the left, as the natural response to said extremism, is usually an equally significant swing back to the far right (using Trump as an example, in addition to similar shifts in Sweden, and Europe), and how that visceral response tends to not be something people end up being very happy with at all. Our horribly depressing outcomes and stats as regards homelessness, housing pricing, affordability, healthcare, and economic growth, were used to support his point about the negatives that tend to emerge from leftist extremism in a western democracy, and he does so to provide these as fodder for Americans to think about as they ponder their choice for President this fall, and also, as they think about just how far and how fast they should be pushing/supporting Democrats as they continue to pursue issues and causes that do nothing but send people screaming into the arms of right wing, extreme idealogues. Although his target audience for the piece is American voters, he does conclude by saying how much he loves Canada and always has, and how he is hopeful we will get the balance right once again, as a way to keep both sides in check and avoid the kind of absurd situation Americans find themselves in today.

Interview about the Consumption in the USA and the coming election: Main Points: 1. The USA's economy is strong in its real sector. 2. The Fed set up an unrealizable Inflation rate within this timeframe. 3. No one is taking seriously the student debt forgiveness program. 4. Those who promise it know that it is an election fallacy. They are using it only to buy votes. 5. There is an international storm brewing on the horizon. But this is not a fatality. https://lnkd.in/g9E3nmRD
