21 May was World Diversity Day. What does that mean? At Beckers we try to use every day as an opportunity to champion a diverse, motivated and engaged community. For example, our colleagues at Beckers Sweden recently hosted an inspiring evening highlighting opportunities for women working in Production. The event included presentations by the Managing Director at our Märsta facility Åsa Hörnqvist and the site’s Production Manager Åsa Mattson. They talked about the commitment at Beckers to gender equality, but equally importantly the evening offered attendees a clear path to a rewarding career that a lot of women had never previously considered. Globally, creating a more gender balanced organization is a key part of our 2030 Sustainability strategy. By challenging the outdated cliche of the male-dominated production environment, we can continue to engage top female talent as we work towards raising the standard of care for our world. Yet people are still put off from applying because of negative perceptions of what it’s like to work in an industrial environment. This is something we are actively seeking to change by running hands-on events such this, where women can explore the many opportunities and hear directly from female colleagues based here at Märsta. Other local initiatives have taken place this year in Italy, Vietnam and Mexico. What we are seeing worldwide is that technological progress, combined with shifting attitudes towards gender roles, are impacting both the nature of the work and the skills needed. #beckersgroup #WorldDiversityDay #peoplewithimpact #coatingsindustry #towards2030

As we step into International Women's Day 2024, embracing the theme "Inspire Inclusion," it's crucial we confront not just the disparities but the deeply ingrained structures and attitudes that perpetuate them. This year's call isn't just about celebrating progress; it's about aggressively questioning why, despite years of advocacy, the playing field remains uneven. Central to this dialogue is the role of men in the fight for gender equality. It's time to move beyond the comfortable guise of being the 'hero' and step into the more demanding shoes of being true allies. True allyship demands more than just support; it means engaging in uncomfortable conversations that many would rather avoid, recognizing that discomfort is a small price to pay for progress. "Inspire Inclusion" challenges us to fundamentally rethink the structure of our professional environments. It's not enough to insert women into leadership positions and call it a day. We must scrutinize the very foundations of our organizations to identify and eradicate biases that hinder true inclusivity. This may mean reevaluating policies, practices, and, most importantly, personal attitudes that have long gone unchallenged. The call for inclusion is not a polite suggestion; it's a demand for radical change. It necessitates that we confront the uncomfortable truths about our workplaces and societal norms. Why? Because glossing over the hard questions has kept us in a loop of incremental progress when what we need is a leap. This International Women's Day, let's not shy away from the controversy that comes with demanding real, tangible change. Let's be prepared to question everything we know about equality, inclusivity, and allyship. Could you please share more about your role at Gina Tricot? -My role as Sustainability Manager is to lead the work of moving the entire company in a more sustainable direction. It includes working with the products we sell, production, but also for instance logistics and human resources. How does Gina Tricot use its influence to advocate for gender equality? -In general, you can say that we use our platform to raise awareness. We know that we reach many women and, in every aspect, we want to be a positive force in terms of gender equality. Whether it's our customers, employees, or women working in production. How do you ensure that your sustainability initiatives benefit women at every level? -We prioritize maintaining strong relationships with our suppliers, regularly visiting them along with third parties to ensure our efforts in the supply chain make a real positive difference. Through partnerships with global organizations like UNICEF, we extend our reach to local communities and contribute to influencing governmental policies that support women at work. How does your role as Sustainability Manager contribute to these efforts? -My role is to set the plan and projects as well as choose partners to collaborate with that lead to the positive impact we desire. I also try to inspire and coordinate the corporate work with my colleagues. It’s all about teamwork!

Today, I want to dive a bit deeper into something that's been on my mind this International Women's Day. Ever heard about Italy's tradition of giving mimosa flowers? It's not just a beautiful gesture but a powerful symbol with a story that deserves more spotlight, especially today. Back in 1946, right after a world torn by war, a group of Italian women decided to pick a symbol for International Women's Day. They chose the mimosa flower - vibrant, resilient, and one of the first signs of spring. Why? Because it represents the strength, the fight, and the bright future of women everywhere. This wasn't just about a pretty flower; it was a statement about resilience, hope, and the fight for equality that was as relevant then as it is now. But here's the thing - this message, this fight, it's not just for one industry. It's universal. From healthcare to education, from arts to engineering, every single one of us has a role in pushing for equality. The spirit of the mimosa flower reminds us that our efforts toward achieving gender equality need to be relentless, not just today but every day. So, what if we took this lesson to heart?
