The Power of Letting Kids Decide: A Lesson from My Childhood 💡👶
As adults, we often expect kids to behave or perform according to our own wishes—sometimes due to unfulfilled dreams, and other times because of societal pressure. While I’m not a parent yet, watching parents and kids around me makes me feel incredibly grateful for the way my own parents raised me. 🙏
My parents never differentiated between having a girl or a boy, never forced me into specific courses, and never questioned my choices. Instead, they offered full support in everything I did. Looking back, I realize how much this freedom shaped who I am today.
📅 One Memory Stands Out
I remember one morning, like any other child, I told my parents I didn’t want to go to school. Their response? No questions. No pressure. They simply said, "Okay."
Their philosophy was simple and profound: “Never force.” If a child refuses to do something, there’s likely a deeper reason. Rather than questioning or enforcing discipline, they always chose to understand why. Maybe something was troubling me at school, or maybe I just needed a break. Whatever the reason, they trusted my feelings and respected them.
💡 This mantra, in my opinion, is one of the best. When children aren’t forced, they naturally develop the maturity to reflect, understand, and make their own decisions. 📈
When you give children the space to grow, you’re not just raising kids—you’re raising self-aware, thoughtful adults. 🌱
