Last week saw our CEO, Jason Mellad, take part in a panel at LSX2024. Alongside Rosie Rodriguez PhD, Kristen Albright and João Ribas, he contributed to an important conversation on how to build inclusivity at work and why fostering diverse and interdisciplinary teams is important.   Reflecting back on the topics they discussed, Jason’s has compiled his top three takeaways. 1. Before building a team, it’s important to take time for self-reflection. Understanding yourself and what you’re bringing to the table, and understanding the gaps that you need others to fill is vital to building a well-rounded and successful team. 2. There’s plenty of research that shows more diverse teams make better decisions and perform better. So, think about how to embrace diversity in all its forms – in the language you use, in the ways you share information, in the accessibility of spaces, the places you advertise, and in an actively thinking about how to welcome and engage with people with different experiences and ways of thinking. 3. Think back to think ahead. If we want to have great talent in years to come, we need to show all young people that there are opportunities to do amazing things in our industry. So, think about engaging with schools, STEM outreach, internships etc. and show young people that the doors are open to all! Happy, happy, happy! We’ve been selected as a Slush Top 20 startup out of more than 1,000 applicants 😊 I’m very happy about this because we might get to redefine what Web 3.0 was supposed to be. You see, right now it’s mainly fraud, memecoins, and money laundering—convince me otherwise. Web 2.0 was great because it made websites dynamic and made software distribution possible on a global scale. Web 3.0, in my opinion, will be an intelligent web. Sites will no longer be static text and SEO spam but vast repositories of knowledge that understand you and adjust content for you. These sites will not be chat interfaces but will adhere to familiar UX. The site we’re building (https://gralio.ai/) looks like a familiar comparison site but has a deep understanding of complex software products. It also has a deep understanding of businesses and their software needs. This enables a simple presentation of interactive, personalized, always up-to-date content that wasn’t possible before. Right now, AIs are performing the work equivalent to 10 human analysts sifting through data and documenting software capabilities. 🤖 Currently, the way we choose software is painful. Business owners and managers are overwhelmed by the number of choices and integrations. We’ve spoken to hundreds of SMBs and NGOs—from skiing schools and marketing agencies to real estate developers—and everyone struggles with the selection process. One of our investors paid a software selection consultant, onboarded a well-known CRM, only to suffer for months and remove it later. Does this sound familiar? 😖 We believe that software is inherently good. The demand for software will explode with the coming AI wave. The ecosystem will expand and become even more complex than it is today. 🌈 So I’m very grateful to Slush for selecting us from 1,000 startups to present. Vineeta Agarwala, MD PhD is set to take the helm from Vijay Pande, PhD, who is moving into a broader role at the firm focused on AI in healthcare. Pande founded the health-focused fund and sits on the boards of numerous biotechs, including insitro, BioAge Labs and Scribe Therapeutics.
