Our new study, "Stepwise Transfer Learning for Expert-Level Pediatric Brain Tumor MRI Segmentation in a Limited Data Scenario," has is now published in Radiology: Artificial Intelligence. Link: https://lnkd.in/egjDiycp What We Did: We developed and externally validated a deep learning model using a stepwise transfer learning approach to segment pediatric brain tumors from MRI scans in a limited data scenario. Our model leverages two T2-weighted MRI datasets from the Children's Brain Tumor Network and Boston Children’s Hospital/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (BCH/DFCI), totaling 284 cases. Key Findings: Our model achieved a median Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) of 0.88, outperforming the baseline model significantly. On clinical benchmarking, clinical experts from BCH/DFCI rated AI segmentations higher on average compared with other experts (median Likert score: median 9 [IQR 7–9]) versus 7 [IQR 7–9]) and rated more AI segmentations as clinically acceptable (80.2% versus 65.4%). On Turing test, clinical experts correctly predicted the origin of AI segmentations in only an average of 26.0% of cases. Why It Matters: This approach not only enhances the accuracy of tumor segmentation but also ensures a high level of clinical acceptability, paving the way for more clinically-reliable and automated brain tumor diagnostics in pediatric patients. Source code and model for implementation here: https://lnkd.in/ebp8pMNW Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to refine and expand our model. Exploring Viral Etiology in Oral Cancer Among Non-Smokers and Non-Drinkers 🦠 1.0 #CME 🔬 Authors: Philippe Pérot, MICHEL FALGUIERES, Laurence Arowas, hélène laude, Jean Philippe Foy, Patrick Goudot, Nicole Corre-Catelin, Marie-Noëlle Ungeheuer, Valérie CARO, Isabelle Heard, marc eloit, Antoine Gessain, Chloé Bertolus, Nicolas Berthet 🔎 Study Insights: A significant study with 68 well-characterized OSCCs and 14 potentially malignant disorders in NSND patients. Examination through deep-sequencing revealed limited presence of HPV. Focus on Betapapillomavirus genus and Trichomonas vaginalis virus (TVV) in relation to OSCCs. 🤔 Conclusions: Findings suggest high-risk HPV genotypes may not play a major role in OSCC development in NSND patients. However, the potential involvement of other viruses needs further exploration. 🔗 Dive deeper into the study for comprehensive insights. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gfw_9up6 🏷️ #OralHealth #CancerResearch #MedicalScience
