Excited to share that I’ve wrapped up the Agnirva Space Internship Program! It was an 80-hour program that I honestly joined just out of pure curiosity about space and for the fun of it. And it didn’t disappoint! From super cool videos that broke down complex space stuff in a really fun way to the automated project reports and project ideas—there was a lot to enjoy. The program wasn’t something groundbreaking, but it did give me a solid foundation in astronomical events, and the best part? It sparked some awesome ideas for how AI and data science can fit into space exploration! Towards the end, I got to dive into some interesting project concepts, and now I’m definitely more curious about using my skills in AI and data science to explore what’s out there. Honestly, the whole thing felt like learning in a chill and enjoyable way, and it left me more motivated to explore new possibilities in the space field. If you're a first-year student, this program could be a great way to explore new and interesting project ideas. It’s fun and gives you a good start on understanding basic space concepts. For seniors, I’d say it’s more of a fun experience to dive into if you just want to explore some basic ideas about space—nothing too advanced, but definitely enjoyable if you’re curious! Machine Learning for the Safety of Critical Infrastructure 🧠💡 Following our latest investment announcement, Orbital Eye is fully focused to optimise the scalability of COSMIC-EYE. The automatic detection of Third Party Interferences using machine learning models is already part of our core technology. A challenge in training these models is to make them work for all edge cases encountered during large scale operational deployments.  Therefore, we are developing the next generation of our internal dataset! One of our interns, Wieger V., has been working to further develop this internal dataset that we have collected with our customers over the past years, with the goal to make these more accurate and robust. Among other things, Wieger has researched data augmentation methods to increase the convergence and stability. Examples of augmentation methods are MixUp, randomly blending 2 images together, and cloud (shadow) generation, as visible on the images below. Introducing these artefacts teaches the model a wider variety of the cases encountered in the real world. The initial results show great improvements to the models, and look promising for the future of our machine learning efforts! We are proud of your work Wieger.
