Agency coordination is a huge part of what we do. It’s also the part of the process that for some, causes the most stress. However, the better you understand the processes involved, the easier it will be for you and the agency you’re working with to ensure your site stays compliant. This involves having at least a base-level understanding of regulatory requirements - such as the Endangered Species Act. It also frequently requires a discussion to establish specific concerns or best management practices for protected species in the area. This preliminary understanding ensures we gather the necessary data when surveying your site. Once the agencies have the data, it’s much easier for them to help us determine the necessary permits. Our foundational work significantly streamlines the permitting process. It makes their life easier, our lives easier, and your life easier. Throughout the project, we’ll be there to provide the agencies with regular communication, and should there be an unexpected development that requires project modifications, we’ll be able to communicate with the necessary departments in a timely manner. Taking samples from newly drilled boreholes can provide unreliable results so the process of purging the well ensures that when water samples are taken they are reflective of the actual groundwater conditions and not samples that are affected by the drilling process. The team will return next week to take samples from the boreholes and then we can give our client an accurate picture of whether or not contamination is present and to what extent. At this point then we can start making recommendations on how to manage the environmental condition of the site through any proposed development works. We used the opportunity to provide some technical training to our team on using a Waterra Pump supplied by Van Walt Ireland Ltd. So, Purged Wells + Team Upskilling = a Win Win for the RSK team. Here's the abstract to one of our upcoming talks at the American Society of Reclamation Sciences 41st Annual Meetings in Knoxville, TN this June 2-5 titled "Long-term monitoring strategies for ecological reclamation programs using spatially balanced rotating panel designs." Monitoring #reclamation efforts is critical for regulatory compliance, to assess site performance, and to inform management actions. It is not uncommon for a single company, agency, or landowner to be responsible for monitoring many locations over multiple years. For example, oil and gas exploration and production companies may be required to monitor hundreds or thousands of well pads over decades or more. Midstream companies may be require to monitor hundreds of miles of pipeline right-of-way reclamation efforts. Due to time, cost, and other logistical constraints it is unlikely that every location would be capable of being monitored every year. However, there is inherent risk in not developing a strategy for the entire asset -- for example, weed issues may not be recognized in certain sections of a field or wildlife habitat stipulations may be unmet. We have developed a novel method utilizing spatially balanced sampling designs and constrained clustering algorithms to create neighborhoods of well pads and pipelines to ensure solid spatial coverage is achieved across an entire asset. Then, using a rotating panel design system, we can ensure entire assets are covered over time. In our talk, we will give specific examples from a well pad system containing >300 well pads across 198,000 miles as well as a pipeline right-of-way system in Pinedale, Wyoming. #ecosystemservices #environmentalmonitoring Register for conference at: www.asrs.us www.abnovaecology.com

USDA is seeking input on voluntary carbon market opportunities in agriculture and forestry. Today, USDA published a Request for Information that asks about protocols used to generate carbon credits from agriculture and forestry projects and how USDA could evaluate those protocols. The RFI also asks about qualifications for technicals assistance providers and third-party verifiers. The information provided will be critical as USDA establishes a Program to facilitate farmer, rancher, and private forest landowner participation in voluntary carbon markets. https://lnkd.in/gWbxNtRx
