🎬 Can Movies Help Us Understand Autism Better? Let’s Dive In! Movies have the power to open minds, and when it comes to autism, they can help bridge gaps in understanding. Films like Rain Man, Temple Grandin, and The Reason I Jump have beautifully portrayed the complexity and strength of individuals on the spectrum, highlighting their unique experiences and challenges. One movie we highly recommend is "Life, Animated" – a heartwarming documentary about how a young boy with autism used Disney films to communicate with the world around him. It's a touching reminder of the power of creativity and connection. Movies like these don’t just entertain—they educate and inspire empathy. Have you watched any movies that resonated with your understanding of autism? Today, April 2nd, is #WorldAutismAwarenessDay. It’s a time for us to #learn more, #accept more, and #support each other more. Everyone touched by autism has their own story, showing us that life’s experiences are incredibly different. Blue was once the color of autism awareness, a sign of support and unity. Now, we're embracing all the colors of the rainbow to show the kaleidoscope of experiences and talents of those with autism. Let's come together to #celebrate everyone's unique qualities, offering the #respect and #dignity everyone deserves. #Diversity #Inclusion #Belonging #Understanding #Solidarity #AutismAwareness"

October is Alternative and Augmentative Communication Awareness Month. If you don't know what that is, you're not the only one. Some people with autism, certain learning disabilities or physical disabilities aren't able to communicate with speech. They might use gestures, sign language, symbolic pictures, or speech generators. We're helping spead this approach in the Russian-speaking world to give non-verbal people more dignity and autonomy. #aac_awareness #aac.awareness #aacawareness2024 #autism

https://lnkd.in/dYRjrv4V I'm excited to introduce Schereeya Reid, a dynamic playwright, poet, artist, and business person to discuss the issue of people of color seeing themselves as they read about neurodiversity. It’s extremely important that a person of any race, gender, or ethnic group can have that “Oh, that makes sense” moment when they read the work of an autistic writer, for example, when someone has the intersectionality of being Black and autistic. When a person has multiple identifications this often results in overlapping systems of discrimination. A Black person faces expectations from peers and discrimination in how they are treated by non-Black people in our society; this is compounded by the ableism they encounter based on autism. The self-knowledge of recognizing autism is a critical piece of self-acceptance. Schereeya is Black, autistic, and Transmasc non-binary. #everythingneurodiversity #holiday #holidaycheer #cheer #cheers #neurodiversity #neurodivergent #holidays #autism #autistic #adult #autismawareness #autismo #autisticchild #autismacceptance #autismsupport #neurodiversity #robertbernstein #marciaeckerd

Before the day comes to a close, let's take a moment to recognize World Autism Day. It's important to increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism. Let's celebrate the diversity and unique qualities that make each individual with autism special, just like we celebrate our loved ones without autism. As a parent, I am proud to celebrate my son and his perfectly normal imperfections. As a community, let's continue to support and be allies to those with autism and their families. Together, let's work towards a world of true acceptance. #WorldAutismDay #AutismAwareness #Acceptance

WORLD AUTISM DAY: "Autism is as much a part of humanity as is the capacity to dream" ~ Kathleen Seidel. As the world marks and celebrate autism day, it's important to note that promoting a culture of acceptance, care and love is what will drive us to a world where inclusion is embraced, and with inclusion; we'll be able to eliminate discrimination and stigma. "Do not fear people with autism; embrace them. Do not spite people with autism; unite them. Do not deny people with autism; accept them, for then their abilities will shine" ~ Paul Isaacs. #WorldAutismDay | #DisabilityInclusion | #AutismAwarenessMonth
