Conflict is on the rise fuelling suffering for millions of people worldwide. In just 23 of the world’s worst conflicts people urgently needing aid have more than doubled over the decade. Yet, the UN Security Council remains paralyzed as a few powerful nations exploit their veto and other negotiating powers to suit their interests, stalling progress on peace. We need a system that puts people and peace above politics. That works for all of humanity not a few powerful nations. It starts with abolishing the UN Security Council veto. The experts, including the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Palestinian territories, said recognition of a Palestinian state was an important acknowledgment of the rights of the Palestinian people and their struggle towards freedom and independence. With their recognition of a Palestinian state, #Spain, #Ireland, and #Norway said they sought to accelerate efforts to secure a ceasefire in #Israel's war with Hamas in Gaza. The three countries say they hope their decision will spur other #EuropeanUnion states to follow suit. #Denmark's parliament later rejected a proposal to recognize a Palestinian state. #WorldEconomy #WorldOutlook #MiddleEast #CorporateStrategy #Strategy #Geostrategy #Geopolitics #GeopoliticalRisks #Politics #WorldPolitics #WorldAffairs #ForeignRelations #ForeignAffairs #ForeignPolicy #InternationalRelations #InternationalAffairs https://lnkd.in/gAtjfSmc

"Lives are hanging in the balance, and the time for complacency is up." The widespread use of #explosiveweapons in conflicts is alarming, with devastating consequences for civilians. The international community now has an instrument - a Political Declaration - to prevent this. For meaningful impact and lasting change, endorsing states must be resolute in their commitment to the declaration and fully implement it to uphold international humanitarian law and alleviate civilian suffering. They should also encourage adherence to its commitments globally by all parties to armed conflict, including allies. Read our blog with our partners: https://bit.ly/44b1uNs

We must congratulate the Biden Administration for being honest. The USA has veto-ed the UNSC resolution to grant Palestine a full membership of the United Nations, just about two hours ago. The US has made clear two things at least: 1. That it cares not what genocide Israel carries out in Gaza 2. That all its talk about peace in Palestine is just crocodile tears. It never will support peace, so long as the weapon manufacturing complex and Israel haven't realised their objective. There is a larger gain to someone else by the US action. China will become a major player in the Middle East. Evidence of such a disposition is already visible. Now it will become more concrete. In the case of Chinese, they have never had pretences like the US. That may be their trump card. It is also important that the US stops calling itself (at least in its own words) as the upholder and protector of human rights and democracy everywhere. Its actions have started speaking a bit too loudly than its words. https://lnkd.in/gRNd7q4p #us #israel #palestine #peace #unsc #resolution #veto #unitednations #membership

THE U.N. MUST BE RECONSTRUCTED by Judah Waxelbaum Article excerpts: "It is easy to point to the joke of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), being composed of notorious human rights abusers, but this rot runs even deeper. The UN has a systematic issue of employing and legitimizing terrorists and their allies." "Countries around the globe have announced they will cease funding to this agency within the United Nations – but more is needed. The UN as we know it must be reconstructed from the ground up. The key funders of the body such as the United States, contributing more than a fourth of the UN’s dues, should cease contributions." "WE SHOULD aim for global partnerships, not be beholden to terror states; for structures that do not promote powers that thrive off decentralizing others. The mere idea that Iran has as much say as India within the UN baffles when discussing efforts toward international cooperation." https://lnkd.in/e_frE237

Joint Statement by #G7 and #EU Member States on Ethiopia: The G7 and EU member states commend the initiation of political dialogue in line with the CoHA to address critical issues for the return of internally displaced persons. They call for an extension of the AU's Monitoring, Verification, and Compliance Mission for sustainable progress. Key points include the need for expedited disarmament and reintegration of ex-combatants, urgency in addressing conflict-affected populations' needs, and advancing accountability through a victim-focused transitional justice process. The parties are urged to uphold the CoHA for lasting peace, and similar commitments are encouraged in resolving crises in other regions of Ethiopia through peaceful dialogue. #Ethiopia #CoHA #Peacebuilding #AfricanUnion #G7 #eu

Beyond the Battlefield: A Call for Justice and Peace As we mark this year’s #InternationalHumanitarianDay, it’s important to recognize the silent suffering caused by conflicts around the world. Every gun made, every warship launched, and every rocket fired steals resources that could feed the hungry and shelter the vulnerable. Behind the scenes of every conflict, it is civilians who suffer the most—families are torn apart, communities uprooted, and generations lost. Governments and global institutions have a moral duty to protect these civilians by stopping the transfer of arms to those who violate international law. The continued supply of weapons to perpetrators not only fuels violence but also emboldens those who operate with impunity. Justice must prevail, and those responsible for these atrocities should be held accountable. The message is clear: #PeaceHasNoAlternative. We must move beyond rhetoric and push for real action. Ending the flow of weapons to those who target civilians and holding perpetrators accountable are critical steps toward lasting peace. On this International Humanitarian Day, let us amplify our call for a world where compassion triumphs over conflict, and resources are used to build, not destroy. In this pursuit of justice, we reaffirm that peace is not just an ideal—it is an urgent necessity. #ActForHumanity #InternationalHumanitarianDay #Peace #HumanRights #EndConflict #JusticeForAll #ProtectCivilians #HumanitarianAction

Today is #WorldRefugeeDay, and record numbers of people are currently uprooted by war, violence and persecution and the world is failing to provide them with protection and assistance. Tackling the global displacement crisis will require an increase in immediate aid for people fleeing violence, greater support for longer-term livelihoods to reduce aid dependency, sustained diplomatic attention on peace negotiations and peacebuilding, and consistent respect for international law.

❗️There is currently no resolution in sight concerning the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. What role should the Social Democrats play as #Germany’s ruling party in resolving the conflict? In his article in Foreign Policy, Knut Dethlefsen calls on Germany and the SPD to return to a humanitarian #ceasefire, with the aim of a permanent ceasefire. 💡What should a coordinated approach to the conflict among European partners look like? What position should Germany and the #SPD define for themselves in the conflict? Read the article here 👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/gJjqu4R3
