Based on technical standards and specifications, ANSI/TIA-568’s distance limit was established to ensure interoperability. It doesn’t take into consideration how different applications use cabling or may require unique solutions. While this can create deployment problems, there are cost-effective solutions to consider, such as extended-reach cables. As a member of Telecommunications Industry Association's Smart Buildings Working Group, I get to help drive broader adoption of smart buildings. Recently, I got to collaborate with other members of the SBWG, including representatives from Cisco, ITTERA Sistemas de Transporte de Información, and CRUX Technology and Security Solutions, to create the first blog in a TIA series that will explore the in-building DC power technologies used in smart buildings. In this first blog, we explain what DC power is and describe different types of DC power systems and where they’re used. It’s a great primer for industry professionals who want to better understand the differences between the four power classes defined by the National Electrical Code. This includes Class 2 and Class 4 power systems, which are particularly relevant to smart buildings. As 2025 progresses, I look forward to helping TIA with more smart building blogs, so stay tuned for updates! Happy New Year! https://lnkd.in/gkfspHqF

Wired infrastructure solutions use cable to connect all meters and sensors in a building. This solution works as long as everything is thought out, and no additions are going to be made in the future. However, if one needs to change the infrastructure in a building to add more meters or sensors, one has two options in case wires are not available at the location of the meters/sensors: 1. Hire an electrician and pay a lot of money to get the wire where you need it. 2. Use a wireless solution. Read more about how you can make your wired meters wireless down below👇 #wiredmeters #converter #wirelessmbus
