The capital of Europe, at least with regards to the institutions. A city that a priori appears boring and gray, however, Brussels is one of the most culturally and socially diverse cities in Europe. A box of surprises where it is possible to travel (within the same city) through Africa, Asia, Europe, America... The city that offers many options and of very high quality.

Have you read this month’s Land & Business magazine from The CLA? 📰 Englefield House and the wider Estate is featured as a case study about diversification for rural businesses, highlighting the Heritage Live Festivals summer concerts as an example of a unique social experience and commercial opportunity for Estates. Our Estates Director, Edward Crookes and Events Manager, Peter Carson, spoke with Jasmin McDermott at The CLA about the intricacies of planning these large events, the importance of working with an organiser who is aligned with the Estate’s values, as well as the benefits these types of events have for those who live locally and work at Englefield. Edward said: “The filming and events operation forms an important part of the estate’s enterprises in diversifying our sources of income; they make a vital contribution to the costs of maintaining the historic fabric of Englefield House, the park and gardens. “They are hard work for the team, but also great fun and a busy events calendar enriches estate life for those who live and work here.” To read more about this year’s summer concerts, click here: https://lnkd.in/dcKzZYWU The full CLA article can be viewed here: https://lnkd.in/eW4rFdbP #EnglefieldEstate #EnglefieldHouse #RuralBusiness #LandedEstate #Diversification #EventsVenue

The Taylor Swift effect is real and will be happening over the next couple of days in Edinburgh, impacting Scotland’s capital and wider central belt. The Eras tour descends in Edinburgh and will kick off at #Murrayfield tonight - turning Edinburgh into Swifty City for the next 3 days. 👯 Hotels across Edinburgh and the central belt of Scotland are experiencing unprecedented demand. Many establishments are fully booked, with fans eager to secure accommodation close to the concert venue. 🏨 Restaurants, cafes, and bars are also set to benefit from the concert. With thousands of fans descending on the city, local eateries are preparing for a busy weekend. 🍹 🍜 🍾 The influx of fans is expected to generate substantial revenue for the city. According to recent reports, Taylor Swift’s concerts could inject up to £77 million into Edinburgh’s economy. This surge in economic activity is a testament to the power of live music events in driving local business growth. If anything, this is another great opportunity for Scotland to showcase what a great destination it is! #visitScotland has published their national event strategy in May, tagging Scotland as The perfect stage. I’m looking forward to many more events to come (If anything to support all GMs, Revenue Managers and finance teams that are working on their June 2025 forecasts & budgets and looking for revenue that replaces the #TaylorSwift impact) #ShakeItOff #Scotland #Tourism

Toronto's spring brings more than just warm breezes and blooming flowers. It heralds a season of celebration, where music and floral festooned streets can boost not only our spirits but also the allure of our city's neighborhoods – a key ingredient for real estate vibrancy. 🎵🌸 Let's talk about living spaces. A home is more than walls and a roof - it’s about the community, the events, and the life that breathes into every corner. That's why events like springtime music and flower festivals in Toronto are more than just a day out; they are an opportunity to revel in the communities our clients look to join. To my clients, often looking for that perfect home to accommodate a growing family, consider this: 🏡 Proximity to Festivals: Homes near vibrant cultural events enjoy a unique charm (and often, increased value). 🎶 Community Bonding: Events like these are where memories are made – a perfect gymnasium for the soul of a family. 💐 Safe and Scenic: Neighborhoods celebrating such festivals speak of a community invested in beauty and safety - two non-negotiables for any family-oriented homebuyer. And to my peers in the real estate industry, let's highlight not just the square footage but the life square, where those feet will tread - the festivals, the parks, the community heartbeat. So, share with me, what's your go-to spring event in Toronto? How does it enhance the story of the homes we cherish and share? #TorontoRealEstate #FamilyHomes #CommunityLiving #SpringFestivals 👇 Drop your favorite event and its impact on community spirit below! 👇 Let's weave the cultural tapestry of our listings to match the vibrant life our clients are yearning for! 🌻🏡🎉

Ontario's festivals are fun, introduce us to great food, art and performances, and contribute to Ontario's $86 billion tourism industry. But many are under threat because the Conservative government keeps cutting their funding. The Toronto Caribbean Carnival welcomes 2.3 million visitors to Ontario. It generates $500 million in economic activity. And from the Ford government, they get what the Premier called a paltry $125,000 in funding. And it's not just the Toronto Caribbean Carnival that's at risk. Ottawa Festivals Network reports that most festivals in Ottawa had their funding cut by this government 50 to 75%. Today at the Legislature, I asked the Conservatives to restore funding to help these festivals thrive and to protect the thousands of jobs and small businesses that depend on them. #ONpoli

An encouraging statement today from the Council Leader: "The Fringe alone listed a record 3,919 productions this year – featuring performers from no fewer than 50 countries. We mustn’t forget, however, just how important the tourist industry is to our city, generating £2.7bn of visitor spend each year, and creating and sustaining well over 30,000 jobs. The festivals alone support 7,000 jobs, contributing £407m to the local economy. Beyond that, of course, it affords us, as residents, the choice of restaurants, bars and other attractions that simply wouldn’t exist otherwise. The ongoing health and success of our festivals also underlines just how important culture is to our residents, as well as our visitors, reinforcing Edinburgh’s - and Scotland’s – reputation on the world stage. That’s exactly why I’m calling on the Scottish Government to urgently set out their plans for long-term investment in our culture sector." Cllr Cammy Day, Leader of the City of Edinburgh Council (Leaders Report), 20 August 2024 #VisitorEconomy #Tourism #Events #Edinburgh #EdinburghFestivals

There's actually 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙢𝙪𝙘𝙝 to see at the Tower of Pisa... Sorry to disappoint you, but- it's underwhelming. Have you ever been so excited to see something everyone’s been raving about and then, once you see it, you think… "𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘵?” Exactly. If you want to make the most of your vacation time, avoid these three overrated sights and check out my alternatives. 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗲 – not only is this essentially just a shed in the middle of the street, its not even the real Checkpoint Charlie from the Cold War. Instead, visit the longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall at the East Side Gallery in Friedrichshain. 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗶𝘀𝗮 – Besides the tower, the cathedral and the baptistry, there’s not much to see in Pisa. You can see all you need to see in an hour or two. Instead, visit The Garisenda Tower in Bologna, only 30 minutes from Florence by train. This city is filled with amazing restaurants, medieval architecture, churches, art and more. Last, and possibly least, 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗻 - its overcrowded, overpriced, and is less authentic than other local Irish pubs. You’ve got to check out O’Donoghues instead. It’s got live Irish music, and is where the Dubliners would come and play for free. So, there you have it—an alternative list (𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺'𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘥...). I get it, though—where the crowd goes often feels like the place to be. But as someone who works in travel—and travels a lot myself—here’s the truth: DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME AT THESE POPULAR EUROPEAN SIGHTS perhaps not what you want to hear, but I don't like to sugarcoat. It's my duty to curate trips for my clients that are 𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲, and often times... the popular tourist spots just suck.
