Momentum is Building

🚨 Human trafficking is the second most profitable illegal industry in the U.S., exploiting millions of lives—but we’re fighting to change that. At EAC Network, we’re on a mission to protect vulnerable youth in Suffolk County from exploitation through our Safe Harbour program. In 2024 alone, we’ve: 👉 Served 192 youth aged 12-21, conducting approximately 770 client visits in their homes and communities. 👉 Delivered 144 youth training sessions in various schools and group homes. 👉 Made 50 court appearances, providing advocacy and support for clients and their families in Suffolk County Family Court. Why does this matter? Because every child deserves a chance to lead a safe, meaningful life. Our “Shining a Light on Human Trafficking 2025” conference takes place tomorrow - January 24, 2025 - and is part of our mission to raise awareness for Human Trafficking Awareness Month. We will shine a light on pressing issues in human trafficking like financial sextortion and the dangers of social media—because the first step toward change is understanding the problem. 💡 Awareness creates action, and action creates change. Each Human Rights Day, AHCH hosts an annual celebration for our staff to celebrate their achievements during the year, reaffirm our commitments to the human right to be healthy and housed, and reflect on the work we still need to do. This year, our theme is "Human Rights: It's in our DNA!"🧬 This theme is all about recognizing each and every one of our staff and their dedication to protecting the inherent right to be healthy and housed. We believe this with every fiber of our being. Each one of us are more than just staff working at a community health center for people experiencing homelessness. We are advocates and stewards of the AHCH mission and model. ✨We care deeply about our communities and about each other and lead boldly as we pave the way towards a world that is just and without homelessness. 💕We elevate the voices of the people we serve and amplify structural solutions that target the root causes and consequences of homelessness. 🌟We create exceptional health care experiences and provide person-centered care and services grounded in dignity, personal choice, and respect. 🧬Human Rights aren't just a guiding practice, it's a part of us. When our movement began creating a network of shelters 40 years ago, organizers knew that kids deserved a safe place to sleep at night – a nourishing environment to grow and thrive. Going to a shelter was intended to be a short stop on the way to a permanent house. What we know is that too many people leaving violent homes have nowhere to go after these temporary stays. We can't let kids stay stuck in instability. People who have survived abuse deserve more options. DV Housing First is one solution. Thanks to the unwavering support of our #TXWFDonor Catalysts, lives are being uplifted, one story at a time, showing us how urgent it is to pave paths toward economic security for those in need. #Housing remains a pressing issue, with too many families only one crisis away from homelessness. As shared by William Holston, CEO of the Dallas Eviction Advocacy Center, the impact of eviction goes beyond losing shelter — it strips away stability and hope. With the critical support of funding from Texas Women's Foundation, the Advocacy Center has been able to increase its reach, providing free legal services to thousands facing eviction, the majority of whom are women and African-Americans. Every day, #TXWF-backed advocates stand in courtrooms across Dallas County, ensuring that women know their rights and have representation to fight for their homes. Be a Voice for the Underserved In the midst of hardship, many people struggle in silence—overwhelmed by barriers they did not create and cycles they cannot break alone. The homeless, the addicted, the mother escaping domestic violence, the family on the verge of eviction—too often, these voices go unheard, drowned out by systems that favor the privileged. But silence does not mean absence. And suffering does not mean unworthy. Advocating for the underserved is not just about charity—it’s about justice. It’s about recognizing the humanity in those society has overlooked and using our resources, voices, and influence to stand in the gap. Whether it’s securing funding for transitional housing, pushing for policy change, or simply offering a hand instead of judgment, every act of advocacy matters. After violent holiday weekend, Chicago civic leaders announce $100 million for crime-fighting efforts| In a show of political and private force after a horrifically violent extended holiday weekend in Chicago, civic leaders joined Gov. J.B. Pritzker, Mayor Brandon Johnson and state legislative leaders to announce progress in their commitment to funding community-level violence prevention programs. [Chicago Tribune] The Chicago business community has raised $100 million to support on-the-ground programs, which typically take the form of nonpolice interventions in communities at risk of violence, in a first-of-its-kind effort from the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago. In addition, $175 million in state funding for those programs has begun to be distributed, Pritzker said. The gathering of CEOs, philanthropic leaders, police and violence interrupters came after more than 100 people were shot in Chicago over the extended Fourth of July weekend. Nineteen people died, including an 8-year-old and two family members in a mass shooting in the South Side Greater Grand Crossing community. Thirteen speakers lined up inside a downtown office building to praise the funding effort, but many acknowledged it’s not enough and that more needs to be done.
