Last night I took advantage of the beautiful Chicago summer weather with some beers with friends. When I pulled out Blue Moon Light from the cooler there were lots of questions about this ‘new beer’ from Blue Moon. Fun fact - we’ve had this beer since 2020, originally launched as Blue Moon LightSky - a delicious 95 calorie wheat ale brewed with real tangerine peel. The opportunity: The name wasn’t as clear as it could have been. The solution - be crystal clear on what it is (a lighter version of blue moon and update the graphics to better land it). The results? Since relaunching it this spring we are seeing awesome momentum with consecutive growth as new people are trying Blue Moon Light! The learnings: 1) Sometimes being simpler is better. Don’t let cleverness trump clarity. 2) Embrace agility: with innovation you’ll likely never get it perfect the first time - the important thing is to learn and get comfortable iterating. 3) Midwest summers are awesome but very short. 🍷 This past Friday night, my wife went to dinner at a new Austin restaurant downtown with some of her friends. It is a trendy place and so the group wanted to get a nice bottle of wine for the meal. My wife and I are known as the wine people inside of our friend circle, so everyone looked to my wife for the recommendation. When my wife told me this story, several thoughts came to mind: ➡ One, I am proud of my wife for picking out a great bottle of wine based off the groups input and the meal that they were about to order. ➡Two, how important it is to be known for something. This makes you the go to person that people trust and rely on for that insight and guidance. 🏭 While socially I am known for wine, professionally I am working toward building a reputation to be the go-to advisor for businesses searching or owning 5,000 to 100,000 SF of flex industrial warehouse real estate in Texas. As we enter August, it’s naturally a much quieter month for the catering and events industry. This can be a real strain on business finances & cash flow. But what Dinner Ladies is focusing on in this quieter time is: 1. Training - completing vital seasonal food, drink and service training with the team so we are going into the next season stronger 💪🏼 2. Investing in relationships - Strengthening client relationships with showcases & visiting our venues 3. Team bonding - making time for a team holiday as well as more pub trips and picnics 4. It was great to see the hospitality industry coming together at Machine Hall for the inaugural Good Food Symposium. Guests heard from Callan Boys Alessandro Pavoni Huss Rachin, Palisa Anderson Rebecca Fanning and Patrick Ryan-Parker sharing their ideas and expertise on how to juggle the complexities of the current economic situation, staffing, pricing, social media and communication. As a newcomer into hospitality (Machine Hall Cafe) there were so many takeaways (pardon the pun 😩): Value creation is more about experience than price with familiar and more personal service driving loyalty - no more 'good evening Madam' A strong team culture can keep highly transient staff engaged. Giving them a shared vision of the future provides them with an opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. Staff are an extension of your brand so time invested in them is always time well spent. Google reviews are vital - so ask happy customers to post or only negatives prevail. Answer all negative reviews personally as this will enable brand messaging.  Businesses need to be multi platform business, comms are crucial and EDM’s sitting in the shadow of socials are the key to drive immediate sales.  Cheers!
