Why do people need work-life balance? Why do they need flex time? Why do they need your understanding and empathy? Because they have a life outside work. (Even if you don’t.) And while we do spend and invest—or sometimes waste—8 to 10 to 12 hours at work each day, we still have almost as many hours at home that count just as much. In fact, that’s very likely one of the reasons people work: to enjoy life outside of work. I have a life outside work and I just passed Black Belt Precheck #1 of three. I don’t need your empathy, I need you to back off! 🤣 Just kidding, have some empathy while you back off.

Yay!!! It's Official!! Last night, I completed my first LinkedIn LIVE w/ the Co-chairs for The Society For Diversity with Victor Simmons (He/Him/His)& Brandy Starks. This was a full-circle moment, as I met Victor some years back. Victor has been an advocate and supporter of my career. As a working parent, I'm all too familiar with the constant pressure of trying to achieve work-life balance, and the resulting guilt of feeling like I'm continually letting down either my family or my work, or both! I've noticed a recent shift in the conversation from talking about the seemingly impossible goal of work-life balance and instead focusing on achieving work-life integration. This article explains the difference brilliantly and could be a great read for anyone who, like me, would appreciate a more realistic approach to combining work and the everyday pressures of life. Fingers crossed work-life integration will be more achievable!

How is your work/life balance going? Chances are your constant focus to achieve harmonious work/life balance is probably creating more stress and anxiety than it’s solving. That’s why I practice “work/life integration”. Let me explain: I realized a long time ago that turning off my “work brain” everyday at 5:00pm and all day on Saturday and Sunday was creating stress, anxiety and to be honest depression. During these times I would constantly be thinking about how to move our company forward or what I could do to advance my career and education. But I was pushing those thoughts down because it wasn’t “working hours”. Somewhere around 2019 I was introduced to this concept of work/life integration after watching an interview with Jeff Bezos. He changed my entire perspective. To learn the fundamentals of this concept just do a quick search on Chat GPT! Since that point I have enjoyed life more, traveled and explored more, grown multiple businesses, started others and achieved more than I thought possible by 35. Work life integration gives you permission to work when you want to work and relax when you want to relax. What is the take on work/life balance?
