Reported shutdown of CATL’s Jiangxi mine ⛏ Reports that the world’s largest #battery producer CATL has shut a lithium mine in central China, due to falling prices, could trigger a significant cut to market supply if confirmed. Chinese brokerages have reported that CATL had stopped production at its Jianxiawo mine in Jiangxi province, due to the fact that lithium prices were below its cash cost of production. If the closure is confirmed, it would demonstrate the difficulties facing Chinese mica #mines in the current low price environment - even those that are owned by larger companies such as CATL. ⬇ Benchmark Source shares what this potential development could mean for the #lithium market - read more below: https://lnkd.in/ePKsu_PY Not subscribed to Benchmark Source? It was always going to come, sustain a low price strategy, make it commercially unviable for others to compete, kill off the competition and then rebalance the supply va demand and push prices upwards when virtually everyone left cannot react. Causing outages and price peaks capitalised with release of high stock inventory and the cycle repeats and repeats! But agree this one could be a trigger!

This will test the latent capacity in Spodumene supply. Let’s see how much of the hole gets plugged with supply our of Africa. Ganfeng must be close to coming on with Goulamina and a good opportunity for Covalent to push Mt. Holland.
