Over my career I have authored many patents, I think the count is over 65 now (which probably means I am old 😉. My inventions have tended to be ridiculously simple things - you can make of that what you will. I literally can’t count the number of times I’ve heard people say “that’s so simple I can’t believe no one ever thought of that.” I used to get exasperated hearing it but now I can look objectively and say “well the patent office disagrees.” But speaking of simple things: Lately, at COR, I’ve been making the case that the ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) test is a simple, trackable measurement that is strongly (anti)correlated with longevity. But perhaps the idea is too simple?! Is a multi-omics biological age clock better? Probably yes. Can you measure that frequently and episodically in the comfort of your own home? No. No you can’t. I can explain my love of the ESR as perhaps the Ultimate Marker for Longevity in 6 bullet points.
