It's #Preptober, and, if you write fiction and you love #NaNoWriMo, it means you're prepping for November – National Novel Writing Month (though it's actually international since people around the world will be participating). If you've never participated in NaNoWriMo, the goal is to write 50,000 words of the first draft of a novel in one month. I've managed to do it a few times; I've also failed a few times. NaNoWriMo is self-care for me. It's gotten me through some of the rough times of my life. I'm hoping it will help me get through the tough times now when my mom is fighting metastasized stage 4 lung cancer. NaNoWrimo helps younger writers find their writing tribe, set goals and stay focused, and tell the stories they want to read and share. It also helps people around the world connect with other writers and realize their goals of finishing a novel. So, help NaNoWriMo keep inspiring people to tell their stories. However, none of them are more important than the titles of Mother, Wife, Daughter, Sister, and Friend. One of the titles I also hold is Chair for the West Michigan Light the Night Walk. This cause has been near and dear to my heart for years now, as my little brother fought and lost his battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, August 21st of last year.
