Many school districts in the State are managed by personnel with little or no knowledge of basic facility management it is surprising that this sad situation is not chronic with many other school districts in Texas. School districts in Texas operate with some of the most dilapidated structures, poor or non existent equipment maintenance, insignificant energy reduction programs, trevial safety and security measures.

Regular roof inspections for school facilities are crucial for maintaining safety and preventing unexpected disruptions. A well-maintained roof not only safeguards students and staff but also helps avoid costly repairs in the future. Many school buildings in the United States are aging, with the average age being 44 years as of 2016. Nearly a quarter of these schools are in fair to poor condition, which can significantly affect indoor air quality. Common issues contributing to poor air quality in schools include: Poor ventilation systems and filtration (31% of schools) Heating problems (26%) Air conditioning issues (28%) Plumbing deficiencies (26%) The design, maintenance, and materials used in school buildings can lead to poor airflow and an increase in indoor pollutants. Problems with heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems, and plumbing can further exacerbate these issues. The number of students and staff in a building, along with the activities conducted, can also impact air quality. While a well-maintained air handling system can trap and filter many particles, it doesn't purify already polluted air. If school buses or cars pick up and drop off students near air handling equipment, exhaust fumes can spread throughout the school's supply lines, creating an unhealthy environment for everyone.
