According to research by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, about 46 percent of all crashes involving bad weather take place during the winter. Winter storms, bad weather, and sloppy road conditions are a factor in nearly half a million crashes and more than 2,000 road deaths every year. A storm is set to hit all of the UK later with gusts of wind of up to 80mph with a risk to life. The Met Office said it was "relatively rare" for the whole of the country to be affected by storm warnings. High-sided vehicles are most affected by high winds, some safety tips for driving in adverse weather conditions: 👉 Reduce Speed -Slow down to a safe and manageable speed to better handle the effects of high winds on an HGV 👉 Use Both Hands- Always keep both hands on the steering wheel to maintain better control 👉 Stay Centered-Position your vehicle towards the centre of the lane to minimise exposure to crosswinds, reducing the risk of being pushed towards the edge 👉Avoid Empty Trailers-If possible, avoid hauling empty trailers, as they are more susceptible to being affected by high winds 👉Park Safely-When not in motion, park in a sheltered area if available, and position the HGV into the wind to reduce the impact of gusts on the parked vehicle. If you can avoid travelling then please do, it's not easy when our job role is driving. Stay safe out there

Good visibility is crucial for staying aware while driving, particularly in bad weather. Having your lights on not only helps you see and respond to possible dangers but also ensures other drivers can see you. Before getting on the road, make sure to clear any snow or debris from your headlights. High beam headlights can reflect off snow, rain, and fog making your visibility worse. Avoid endangering other drivers by dimming your high beam headlights when sharing the road close by. #Safetyfirstalways #winterweather

Driving during the rainy season requires extra caution due to slippery roads and reduced visibility. Here are some key precautions drivers should take: 1. **Reduce Speed:** Wet roads can be very slippery. Lowering your speed helps maintain better control of the vehicle and reduces the risk of hydroplaning. 2. **Increase Following Distance:** Leave more space between your vehicle and the one in front of you to account for longer stopping distances. 3. **Use Headlights:** Turn on your headlights to increase visibility for yourself and other drivers, even during the day. 4. **Check Tires:** Ensure your tires have adequate tread depth and are properly inflated to improve traction. 5. **Avoid Sudden Movements:** Accelerate, brake, and turn smoothly to avoid skidding. 6. **Stay Alert:** Be aware of your surroundings, including other vehicles, pedestrians, and potential hazards like standing water or debris. 7. **Avoid Puddles:** Large puddles can cause hydroplaning or hide potholes and other hazards. 8. **Use Wipers and Defrosters:** Ensure your windshield wipers are in good condition and use them along with defrosters to keep your windshield clear. 9. **Watch for Signs of Hydroplaning:** If your vehicle begins to hydroplane (lose contact with the road surface), gently ease off the accelerator, and steer straight until you regain control. 10. **Maintain Your Vehicle:** Regularly check and maintain your brakes, lights, and windshield wipers to ensure they function properly. 11. **Plan Your Route:** Allow extra time for your journey and consider alternative routes that are less likely to flood. 12. **Avoid Cruise Control:** Using cruise control in wet conditions can increase the risk of losing control. By following these precautions, drivers can enhance their safety and that of others during the rainy season. #safedriver #safevehicle #safegoods #safetransportation

If your window won’t open, remove your headrest and use the pointed end to break your window. 4️⃣Escape and climb to a safe place to call for help Even low-level floodwater is hazardous, as it can cause vehicles to aquaplane, losing grip due to a layer of water between the tyres and the road.
