"I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." -Bruce Lee Here at US Swimming Olympic Trials in Indiapolis. These competitive swimmers, who are racing to be qualified for the Paris Olympics, are a true testament of excellence! Competitive swimming is one of the sports that... To be excellent, you have to practice the same stroke 1000 times over! Such grit, determination, and playing the long game. I have a daughter who is a competitive swimmer, and trust me when I say: Times can be tough where she is heavily challenged, near the cusp of quitting, especially when all her hard work doesn't show immediate results. In our fast paced world, where everything comes at lightning speed, including our immediate need for gratification and expectations for success... These swimmers are great reminder for me to be focused, be consistent, have grit, determination, and play the long game. What long game are you playing? #leadershipexcellence #usswim #roadtoparis #parisolympics #leadershiplessons

I love this for at least FOUR reasons. First, [once again], Sports as a Crucible for Life. ↳ Bryan Kryder’s story is another example of how sport ties back into work and life. Growth comes from being outside of your comfort zone. Kudos to Bryan for being brave and having a growth mindset. Let’s check out what Bryan said: ↳ “the older we get, we tend to fall into patterns of just playing it safe and doing the things that we know” ↳ “trying something new” ↳ “a new challenge” ↳ “test myself” ↳ “[overcoming] fear” ↳ “learning and taking instruction” ↳ “confidence” ↳ “progress” ↳ “life skill” ↳ “fitness” ↳ “taking a first step” ↳ “opening up your world” ↳ “limitless” Powerful stuff! Second, Connections and Relationship. ↳ Bryan’s story is moving to me, because its powerful, but also because I feel connected to it. It was reposted by my friend and former teammate Chris Plumb. Chris is the CEO and Head Coach at Carmel Swim Club. Carmel Swim Academy -- which offers “learn to swim” programs like the one Bryan is involved in – sits under Carmel Swim Club. Carmel Swim Academy is another amazing thing that my friend and former teammate is doing with his organizations in the sport of swimming and for the State of Indiana. Thank You and Keep Going! Third, Community. ↳ Chris and his team at the Carmel Swim Academy are doing their part to help their community by providing critical “learn to swim” programming. As Bryan said, this is a life skill. Four, Enriching Content. ↳ I can’t wait to follow the SWIM feature, presented by INNOVATIVE and the Indiana Sports Corp. This is exactly the type of content that brings me back to LinkedIn. Refreshing. Motivating. Inspiring.
In the first episode of SWIM presented by INNOVATIVE, we learn how Bryan Kryder overcame his fear of water to take his very first swim lesson. Despite a frightening canoe accident as a child, Bryan’s work on the Indiana Sports Corp's local organizing committee for the upcoming USA Swimming Olympic Trials has inspired him to learn this life saving skill through the Swim IN Safety program presented by Eli Lilly & Co! Check back each Wednesday leading up to the #SwimTrials24 for a new episode of SWIM, featuring unique stories from Hoosiers about the importance of swimming.

This week, both Swimming Australia and USA Swimming will begin holding their respective Olympic Trials for the upcoming Olympic Games. Last summer at the World Championships, the Australians pulled off a stunner by earning more gold medals than the Americans (13 to 7). However, the Australians have not topped a medal table at the Olympic Games since 1956 in Melbourne. The Americans have a long track record of performing well in Olympic years. The US Olympic roster will likely feature athletes who are current NCAA athletes or just wrapped up their eligibility this March. For the US veterans that end up making the team, nearly all of them still train on college campuses. With college athletics going through a total shift, my opinion is that schools are the most marketable when they are successful in multiple areas. Athletic Departments should celebrate their Olympic Gold Medalists as much as they celebrate football and basketball accomplishments. WBB certainly has proven that investing in the talent can pay off. The NCAA swimming and diving system develops many Olympic medal contenders, for both the United States and the rest of the world. Invest in these superstars and there will no doubt be a return on interest that will benefit all parties. #LinkedInSports #Olympics #Swimming https://lnkd.in/eCz6HJWu

Being different takes creativity. But to differentiate requires commitment and consistency.
Striving for excellence in every small detail – every stroke, every catch, every pull – this is the philosophy of Siobhan Haughey, our home city’s first Olympic medallist in swimming. Like all Hong Kongers, she knows that only by executing every detail with unmatched precision can they become the steps that bring you to new heights. Sharing this belief, we're excited to welcome Siobhan as our new brand ambassador and continue to be a part of her journey, while inspiring everyone to leap forward higher and further. Small steps make a big leap. #EveryMoveCounts : https://lnkd.in/gnW6_VPS #Cathay #MoveBeyond

The ‘gallop’ is one of those skills that might not make a lot of sense on the surface. Why would swimming asymmetrically be faster? Yet when it comes to men’s 100-m and 200-m races, almost ALL the athletes are using this strategy (it's present with less frequency in other events). I suspect there’s a reason that’s the case. Check out the video for an explanation as to why the gallop is an effective strategy when swimmers need to go FAST, sustain that speed, and get oxygen.
