This week the European Union published a comparison of real world fuel consumption vs label numbers based on WLTP. The data are from vehicles registered since 2021, with big data sets (~500k ICE, slightly more 120k PHEV) collected from real life through OBD. The astonishing, well not fully but rarely seen in such big data sets, results show that on average, ICE consumes ~120% labeled fuel consumption, while PHEV consumes ~350% labeled numbers. You can easily tell a lot of stuffs from these numbers... But an easy one is surly that most PHEV users are not charging enough as they are expected, and by the end of the day, the label numbers are totally misleading.

Today I read an interesting article on the main TV channel’s website in Denmark (https://lnkd.in/df9RJP6N) The article is making the cost comparison of driving a diesel car and an EV back and forth from Denmark to The Garda Lake in Italy for the summer. The comparison was showing a saving of more than 4000Dkk ( approx 600€) but still a total cost of 9000+ Dkk (1200€)!!! I don’t know who made the calculation and what is the exact math behind it as the only data provided is an average of 20kWh per 100km driven, but here is REALITY: - I am soon finishing a 3500km trip to 🇫🇷 - with 4 people in the car, air conditioning running all the time, a box on the roof and full of luguage my average consumption is 19,7kWh but will likely reach 20 by the end of the trip as mostly highway left. - so far 2500km driven - based on feedback on a post from last year I subscribed to a monthly abonnement to Tesla supercharger and ONLY recharged there as they are basically EVERYWHERE - 13 charges done Total cost so far 1178dkk ( 160€)!!!!! I estimate that I will need 4-5 more charges which will bring me to 200€ for 3500km… So if you are not in it for saving CO2 - still make yourself a Favour to save 💶. 😇
