A great digital twin story. I wonder if one of the follow on use cases will be to use the visual interface to support asset management? Imagine residents reporting and then following up on maintenance issues like potholes or lighting issues by interacting on the digital twin! City employees and contractors could view and manage work and see a heat map of work requests to drive dispatch and work triage, all I n the 3d model, in visual context.

A perfect encapsulation of just how a digital twin can be beneficial to localities, both big and small! Planning for the future is paramount and doing so is made easier and more seamless using a digital twin.

Y'all probably don't know me well enough for this, but I am a huge public transit nerd. I think having tons of transit options is the healthiest thing for a town or city. Combine that with the fact many of my clients are engineers and I see only good coming from expanding our transit infrastructure. But seeing the possibility of transportation and housing work together, is even better. Architects & engineers will benefit from the growth and construction. On a different note, I heard that Washington state has more roundabouts than California. Why is that? Washington has severe congestion issues and narrow roadways. $180,010,000 FED. FUNDING —U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced landmark $180,010,000 in federal funding for Syracuse's I-81 Viaduct Project, granted under U.S. Department of Transportation's Neighborhood Access and Equity Program. This marks its inaugural nationwide utilization, established through Schumer's Inflation Reduction Act, inspired by bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Law. ARTS + CULTURE — Anticipating the potential impact of federal funding on our city center, I hope that the arts and culture sector will experience residual benefits from the $30 million carve-out for the City of Syracuse. This funding can generate neighborhood revitalization and unique land use through art-based placemaking, fostering community building and enriching cultural diversity while assisting artists, makers, and cultural workers. As the I-81 project progresses, I hope our elected representatives and community stakeholders will leverage the arts as integral to enhancing quality of life, driving economic development, and expanding the workforce.

🚧 Exciting News for Rochester, Minnesota! 🚧 The wheels are in motion for a transformative road project aimed at revamping the I-90 and Hwy. 52 interchange, enhancing safety, traffic flow, and connectivity. Starting this Monday, the journey begins with the critical first step - tree clearing - to pave the way for construction that promises minimal traffic interference. This meticulous plan unfolds over multiple seasons, commencing with tree clearing and, eventually, the addition of new ramps, loops, and overpass bridges starting in 2025. We're looking at a $38.4 million investment in our infrastructure, set to culminate in 2026 with the rebuilding of westbound bridges and more. For us locals, this means a smoother commute, a safer drive, and an invigorated economy bringing more opportunities to Rochester. I always read the The Brookings Institution stuff on metros and city policy. This has useful ideas and findings: 'For instance, relatively simple changes to street and sidewalk design can lower rates of violence. In New York City, streetlights were found to reduce “index crimes”—including murder, robbery, aggravated assault, and some property crimes—by more than a third. Road congestion has such an impact on commuters’ stress and aggression that research finds a correlation between traffic conditions and rates of domestic violence, indicating that traffic-fighting street design may make communities safer on a number of levels. Additionally, such investments can reduce pedestrian deaths—a major threat to safety across our nation'. I add the other leading US thinktank - albeit one founded I kid you not by the CIA back in the day - the RAND Corporation - has shown in research that had a look at what worked in terms of congestion management that without road pricing congestion cannot be managed let alone reduced. It's the only thing that works. Putting the two think tank analyses together suggests that congestion charging works in its own traffic management domain but also has an under examined health benefits for car users and pedestrians.
