Must not underestimate overtourism as a complication of tourism driven economy. Also shouldn't underestimate the ongoing work place transformation as a potential solution. Many cities in Asia have become top tourist and expat living destinations, thanks to good infrastructure and affordable attractive lifestyle. However, post pandemic tourist surge has started to put some pressue on the locals. Hopefully, further adoption of hybrid working including 4 day work week for selected jobs and businesses can help de-crowd hot spots to further accommodate more visitors to grow the economy for win win. #overtourism #hybridworking

Thrilled to be featured in The New York Times alongside my ICF colleague Eliot Lees discussing "bleisure" (business + leisure travel). Remote work has revolutionized the concept of work-travel. It's no longer just about tacking on a few extra vacation days to a business trip. Now, we see new trends emerging, with people blending work and travel for extended periods or even embracing the digital nomad lifestyle altogether. Public and private sector policies are necessary for managing and capitalising on the phenomenon as it evolves. Alignment between the two is critical and the task becomes even more challenging when considering taxation and legal requirements. Destinations looking to attract these travelers need a two-pronged approach: establishing a clear regulatory framework and developing new products and facilities, such as co-working spaces and high-speed internet. However, these efforts can't happen in silo. A successful strategy must also consider factors like seasonal fluctuations, carrying capacity, housing, and the need for balanced distribution and dispersion. A complex and multifaceted phenomenon.
