The media industry has been hiding behind "competitiveness" as an excuse not to pay employees at entry level and all it does is close out the sector to anyone who can't rely on the bank of mum and dad. It shrinks our talent pool, it makes our media landscape homogenised and inward looking, and it sustains inequality. It's time for change. We are taught that if we are nice, loving, caring, hard-working we will be successful, everybody will love us and we will fully accepted and recognized. This is not true. Or have you ever seen a powerful successful woman being only proper and nice and hard-working? Don’t get me wrong: it doesn’t mean there aren’t such women. Of course, there are. And there should be. What I mean is that most of us, though we are nice, though we are loving, though we are caring, though we are hard-working, especially divorced senior managers in the food industry, do not get the recognition we deserve if we do not open our mouths and communicate what we need and want. Ladies, this our time. Let’s start. Let’s start building our networks, let’s start investing in ourselves. Let’s start getting some help to catapult our careers.

The Jobwell Board of Directors is seeking a new Chair! Jobwell operates a variety of businesses that are purpose-built to create meaningful employment opportunities for adults living with persistent mental health challenges. Our unique, hands-on supportive employment model cares for the whole person by creating a personalized work experience and empowering staff to build on their skills to achieve their vocational goals. Our Mission: To provide meaningful employment opportunities throughout our community which are rooted within a culture of inclusion, compassion, and empowerment. Our Vision: To be recognized as a leader in supportive employment and a champion of creating businesses which are free from vocational barriers, stigma, and social isolation – factors typically experienced by those navigating their mental health. The Opportunity: The Board of Directors provides Jobwell with its vision, direction, and financial management. They meet established goals and oversee Jobwell programming, while providing the overall governance necessary to help Jobwell thrive. Jobwell seeks applications for the role of Chairperson on Jobwell’s Board of Directors. Board appointments are voluntary in nature, with twelve Board meetings throughout the calendar year. The Board does convene over the summer months. Qualifications: Prospective candidates should be drawn to Jobwell’s mission and vision and be meaningfully committed to the success of the communities Jobwell serves. Applicants will be assessed on their skill sets, relevant experience, and the knowledge they can bring to the Board. While all candidates are encouraged to apply, and in doing so express how they envision themselves adding value to the Board of Directors and Jobwell environment, the following credentials are viewed as possible markers of the candidates most closely aligned with the needs of the Board in current state: 1. Senior administrative experience gained in a complex organization. 2. Experience in strategy and governance. 3. Thought leadership in the area of business development. 4. Strong leadership qualities.
