Beond Ibogaine Treatment ’s Post

The basolateral amygdala is a brain region that processes emotions and translates them into behavioral responses. Despite its importance, little is known about the underlying neuronal processes.  A new study by Rüdiger Klein & team has identified several genetically and spatially distinct cell clusters within this brain area. Their findings reveal that spatial segregation goes along with different functions: Some of the cell clusters respond to positive emotions and promote normal eating behavior. Others in different parts of the basolateral amygdala respond to both positive and negative emotions and e.g. drive social interactions. This research advances our understanding of the neuronal diversity in the basolateral amygdala, shedding light on how the brain processes and reacts to emotions. Gives new meaning to phrases like “She gets that from her mother” or “Just like her dad”. But only one X chromosome is active in each cell! 🧬 New Research Highlights: A study from the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences at Imperial College London reveals: The active X chromosome can vary between different parts of the body. For example, heart cells might express more of dad’s X, while blood cells could lean towards mum’s X. 🌟 Why This Matters: This distribution is driven by competition between cell clones. It can affect female development and might influence the risk of certain conditions. Next time you think about your genetic inheritance, remember it's not just a 50/50 split!

I am proud to announce…just kidding. I haven't had any interesting interactions today or made some sort of illuminating career move that I will spin into a post about personal growth and gratefulness. I did however find a very interesting, crafty wee paper (Chrétien et al., 2018) on mitochondria that suggests that these are kept at 50C, well above physiological body temperature. For neuroscience researchers and biotechnology reagent companies, this could be an interesting biological effect to explore within larger research questions and/or products. It's been a couple of years since my first independent research experience in the Bayne lab at The University of Edinburgh, but I could not be more proud to see the results we've achieved published in the Journal of Cell Science this month! Here, we discuss a novel mechanism of epigenetic regulation of centromere function in fission yeast. Hopefully the first of many publications to come! #epigenetics #yeast

I'm excited to share that our project, titled "Insilico Studies Unveiling the Hepatoprotective Potential of Morus alba: Docking and ADMET Analysis," has been published in the 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘈𝘺𝘶𝘳𝘷𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤 𝘔𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘦. This work explores the potential hepatoprotective effects of Morus alba through advanced in silico methods, including molecular docking and ADMET analysis. A special thanks to our project guide, Mr. Yashwant D. Nakhate, for his invaluable guidance and support at every step of the way. His expertise and mentorship were crucial to the success of this project. This research would not have been possible without the incredible support and collaboration of my project partner, Aayushi Deshmukh. Working together on this project has been a rewarding experience. We are excited to share our most recent publication in Bioconjugate Chemistry showing the enhanced expression and water transport activity of aquaporin-4 (AQPN-4) membrane channels in human astrocytes. This water transport is the basis of the glymphatic system, the brain’s waste management system. Our results demonstrate the ability to induce enhanced AQPN-4 expression through the erythropoietin (EPO) receptor/JAK-STAT signaling pathway by presenting to the cell EPO displayed in multivalent form on a nanoparticle scaffold. The work has implications for both the controlled modulation of the glymphatic system and drug delivery to the brain that circumvents the crossing of the blood brain barrier. https://lnkd.in/eqHqwes8

Only humans and some primates develop the red light sensor, which allows for full-color #vision. Scientists for decades thought red cones formed randomly -- that the cells haphazardly commit to sensing green or red wavelengths. Instead, this new fascinating #organoid research suggests red cones materialize through a specific sequence of events orchestrated by retinoic acid within the #eye.
