CTO | 30+ Years Leading Game Dev Teams to Success. Proven Track Record in Multi-Platform, Cross-Genre Product Delivery
As engineers working on UEFN projects, performance optimization is a constant concern. While we've had basic metrics like frame rate and memory usage, in-depth analysis has been a challenge. Epic Games' recent announcement of the Spatial Profiler is a step in the right direction, but we're eager for the full suite of Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) tools to make their way into UEFN. The Spatial Profiler: A Visual Approach to Optimization The Spatial Profiler is a welcome addition to UEFN. Its heatmap overlay of our islands, highlighting areas with high actor counts, game update times, render times, or draw calls, provides much-needed spatial context. We can now see precisely where optimization is needed most, making our efforts more targeted and efficient. This visual approach is particularly helpful when working with complex islands. Instead of sifting through numerical data, we can quickly identify performance bottlenecks by simply looking at the heatmap. This streamlines our workflow and allows us to focus on the areas that need the most attention. The UE5 Toolset: A Glimpse into the Future While the Spatial Profiler is a great start, we're eagerly awaiting the integration of UE5's full suite of optimization tools. Tools like Unreal Insights, the Profiler UI, and Stat Commands would give us the granular data and real-time feedback we need to fine-tune our UEFN projects for optimal performance. For example, Unreal Insights would allow us to trace and visualize engine data, giving us a deep understanding of how our games are utilizing CPU, GPU, and memory resources. This level of insight would be invaluable for identifying and resolving performance issues that are difficult to detect with basic metrics. Integrating UE5 Tools: A Seamless Workflow The ideal scenario would be a seamless integration of UE5 tools into UEFN. This would create a unified workflow where we could leverage the full power of Unreal Engine's performance analysis capabilities, regardless of whether we're developing for Fortnite Creative or other UE5 projects. This would not only make our lives easier but also democratize optimization for less experienced developers. By providing them with accessible and intuitive tools, we can empower them to create high-performance experiences without requiring deep expertise in optimization techniques. A Unified Ecosystem: The Future of UEFN Performance Optimization At Magnetik Gameworks we envision a future where UEFN and UE5 are fully integrated, allowing us to use the same powerful tools for both platforms. This would streamline our workflows, enhance our optimization capabilities, and ultimately lead to better-performing UEFN experiences. With the Spatial Profiler as a first step, we're optimistic that Epic Games will continue to bridge the gap between #UEFN and #UE5, empowering us to create truly exceptional Fortnite Creative experiences.
This week we take a look at the newest updates for UEFN and muse about Disney's UGC strategy within their Epic partnership. https://lnkd.in/gBPRy8dd We'll be back next Thursday with more UGC news and deep dives.

$DIS has some of the most valuable brand assets in the world, yet it's up just 3% this year and down 30% in the past 5 years However, Disney is finally profitable with Disney+, and we're well beyond the Covid-era disruptions to its parks and cruise businesses. And with Bob Iger back as CEO, he's doubling down on content quality over volume. Interesting time to revisit the stock! Check out the episode to learn more about how Disney weathered the pandemic, why its stock has underperformed, and why now is such an intriguing time to consider adding it to a balanced portfolio.

🚨New Insight: EMEA Leading the Way for Second Windows after Disney+ This month sees the acquisition of two second window Disney+ Originals airing as non-exclusive #boxsets on #ITVX in the UK. The lack of enhanced catch-up offered has long been a frustration for linear buyers of second window after SVOD, and Disney’s willingness to grant more catch-up rights in the second window may give them an edge over other studios looking to sell their own #SVODoriginals. In this insight, Director Jack Thomas uses Show Tracker to reveal the latest examples of second window activity for #Disneyplus series, demonstrating its focus on EMEA Read more ➡️ https://hubs.la/Q02lklmb0 #TVInsights #StreamingMedia #ContentAcquisition #ContentRights

Pixar, a subsidiary of Disney, has struggled for the past few years. The company recently announced that it will no longer produce content for the streaming service Disney+, which has resulted in the company having to lay off 14% of its workforce. The company president, Jim Morris, announced the cuts in an internal memo. Pixar will lay off about 175 employees. These layoffs and changes in the company came after two of their movies, “Lightyear” and “Elemental,” did not perform as well as they had predicted. Pixar found that using its films to build and expand Disney+ weakened the animation studio. Three Pixar movies premiered through the streaming services, skipping their in-theater debuts. While Pixar will not create more content for Disney+, it will still make some select short films for the streaming service. #TheSocialTalks #Pixar #Disney #Disney+ #Streaming

I help entertainment IPs generate revenue outside of their core revenue streams through creative strategic solutions.
So what’s the crack with licensing? Well, licensing enables intellectual property (IP) creators to authorise others to utilise their creations, such as characters or stories, in various products, services, or experiences. For instance, Disney owns the Star Wars IP and allows companies to use Star Wars elements, such as characters and imagery, in their products. These elements must be approved by Disney to maintain brand integrity. Companies pay Disney royalties, usually a percentage of revenue from sales featuring Star Wars branding. This mutually beneficial arrangement allows Disney to monetise its IP while enabling companies to leverage Star Wars' popularity to boost sales and interest. If you want to explore maximising this opportunity, drop me a DM #licensing #IP #royalites #brand #disney
