Royal London has submitted plans to redevelop 2 Queen Caroline Street into a cutting-edge, 14-storey purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) block designed by the renowned Allford Hall Monaghan Morris. This ambitious project will breathe new life into a currently vacant five-storey office building, partially retaining its single-storey basement while replacing the upper floors with a sustainable, future-ready PBSA. -179 student bedrooms with 10% accessible rooms and 35% affordable housing. - Ground floor library and café, envisioned as a community hub for the Irish Cultural Centre. - The application is supported by Imperial College London, with its nearby campuses. This landmark scheme is a testament to collaboration and shared vision, working alongside key stakeholders, including the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, Imperial College London, and the Irish Cultural Centre. Emma Greenland had an intensive and insightful two days at the Education Estates® Exhibition | Conference | Awards earlier this month. 🏫✨ At the Department for Education stand, she explored an exhibit of the Building Bulletins, dating back to BB No. 1 from 1949.  📚 It’s fascinating to see how many of these bulletins remain relevant to school design today. As we look ahead to the next 75 years of school design, it’s crucial to remember the lessons from the past. 🕰️ Many of us in the Education Estates sector are eagerly awaiting the upcoming spending review announcements. These will reveal: >How capital investment in our school estates will shape generations of future learners. 📈 >How our schools will accommodate more nursery and early years places to meet childcare demands. 🧒🏽👶🏾 >How we can begin to improve and regulate environmental conditions in these settings. 🌱 With themes such as Carbon Zero, Biophilic Design, Access to Nature indoors and out, Standardisation, and Universal Inclusion, there’s a lot of exciting work ahead. 🌍🌿 As a member of the Education Estates Leaders Network, Emma Greenland will ensure Anderson Acoustics plays a key role. This morning, Rachel Legood had the pleasure of attending the opening of the impressive new Construction Centre at Oaklands College, St Albans Campus in conjunction with the college and R G Carter. The event showcased not only the cutting-edge facilities but also the exciting future for vocational education in our region. From the ribbon cutting by Daisy Cooper MP to inspiring talks by industry leaders including Richard Tavener (Herts & Beds Constructing Excellence Club & RDT Architects) and Neil Lock (Morgan Sindall Construction), it was clear this centre will play a vital role in serving regional employers. The highlights? ✔️ Aiming for 'Excellent' BREEAM standards, the centre is a sustainability trailblazer, featuring solar panels, air source heat pumps, and fully recycled bricks - the first project in England to do so! ✔️ A transformative workspace designed with sustainability at its heart, including sustainable furniture by JPA Workspaces. ✔️ Innovative tech like real-time energy usage displays to engage and educate students. As Hertfordshire Building Control, we’re thrilled to see such forward-thinking projects coming to fruition. The centre demonstrates how strategic collaboration across Hertfordshire can deliver facilities that empower students and meet local employers' needs. Thrilled to see NHS Property Services receive approval on 13th November from the London Borough of Tower Hamlets to create a new life sciences cluster in Whitechapel, next to the Royal London Hospital at the Strategic Development Committee last night. This visionary project will transform five underused plots into high-quality, flexible spaces for life sciences, supporting inclusive research that will help to address health inequalities. In collaboration with Queen Mary University of London, Barts NHS Health Trust, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, and other stakeholders, this development marks the next step in realizing a shared vision to make Whitechapel a hub for life sciences, driven by its unique location and diverse community. Proposals have been submitted for a 50-bedroom student accommodation building at a leading land-based college. Coleg Cambria plans to further develop its Llysfasi campus following the completion of a £10m agriculture and education centre, featuring a library, classrooms, a climbing wall, laboratories, a coffee shop, meeting spaces, atrium, and wellbeing and HE hubs. Designed by TACP Architects Ltd, the new development would be built by Read Construction Holdings Ltd - both companies are based in Wrexham. Head of Llysfasi Elin Roberts said a surge in student numbers in past years and growth of industry partnerships with the likes of AGCO and Kubota – which see learners from across the UK visit the Denbighshire site regularly for lectures as part of work-based qualifications – created demand for more high-quality living quarters. “We experienced a 70% rise in students so there is a need for more accommodation, especially for the apprentices who come here in three-week blocks from all over the country,” she said.
