Well-said, Olaf Groth of Cambrian Futures. Having just returned last week from Ukraine, Kenya, and Somalia, I observed up close some of what you enumerated in your remarks: support to key, democratic allies and partners; partnering with—and not leaving behind—countries across the global south; discovering and guiding opportunities for growth in a high-risk environments (mil-tech and green-tech investment in Ukraine, and fintech initiatives in east Africa).

The new $95.3 billion U.S. foreign aid package signed Wednesday by President Biden will result in one negative and two positive impacts for businesses. What do North Carolinians think about the various foreign aid bills Washington is working on? Very exciting votes on and reactions to the various foreign aid bills in the U.S. House of Representatives today (4/20/2024). First some context from the #hpupoll. We have asked many times about how important people in NC think it is for DC to deal with particular issues. The attached table shows what we often observe: specific foreign policy issues are not seen as the most important by the public. Notice that "national security" is very important for more than 2/3 of North Carolinians (70%). But the conflicts between Ukraine & Russia and Israel & Hamas are only seen as "very important" by about a third of the people we polled. You can find a lot about #foreignpolicy in #ncpol starting on page 13 of our memo (with methods on the first page): https://lnkd.in/dYhXUhpz and I have replied to this message with some more information worth considering. Stay well, everyone.

Bread for the World is deeply concerned by the order temporarily pausing new and existing U.S. foreign assistance programs and urges an immediate end to this interruption of services as the Administration completes its necessary review of these critical programs, which we believe will show they are effective and in the interest of the United States. The Bible is clear, reminding us that as we do unto the ‘least of these’ among us, we do as unto Jesus (Matthew 25:40). We urge Secretary Marco Rubio and the State Department to conduct a swift yet thorough review of foreign aid programs while continuing the lifesaving work these programs provide. Hypothetical Syllogism on (Y)'s Foreign Aid Executive Orders: 1. If (Y) cuts foreign aid, gov'ts will panic and hold emergency meetings. 2. If gov'ts panic, officials will drink coffee and give dramatic speeches. 3. Therefore, if (Y) cuts foreign aid, diplomats will stay awake. #ComputerScientist #Logics #ForeignAid #EconomicCrisis #SocialImpact
