🌪️ Preparing for an Above-Average Hurricane Season and Supply Chain Challenges 🌪️ NOAA forecasts a record-setting hurricane season for the Atlantic region in 2024, with up to 25 named storms predicted. The season runs from June 1 to November 30, peaking in August and September, which aligns with the peak shipping period from August to October. Past hurricanes, like Harvey in 2017, have shown how severe weather can disrupt supply chains, causing port closures, road congestion, and driver shortages. Hurricane Harvey alone closed Gulf Coast ports, including Houston, Galveston, Texas City, Freeport, and Corpus Christi for nearly a week. Texas ports are already taking preventative measures to prepare for this season. The U.S. Coast Guard monitors conditions while ports coordinate with stakeholders, emergency services, and local leaders. As we approach the season, it's important to prepare for potential production shutdowns, port closures, delays, and rerouted shipments. Stay proactive and ensure your supply chain is ready for this hurricane season.
