🌟 More transparency on the CO2 footprint in polymer processing: #Meraxis & partners make it possible. Together with the INC Innovation Center, Fraunhofer-Institut für Produktionstechnologie IPT, REHAU and TERDEX, the Digital & Disruptive Business Team of Meraxis Services GmbH in Germany is working on a tool for a transparent and optimized CO2 footprint in polymer processing. The goal is to reduce CO2 emissions thanks to an optimized material mix and improved processes. How? By measuring consumption data, such as the energy used directly in polymer processing, and combining it with emission data and economic factors such as material and electricity costs. At last week’s CO2ptiMat milestone meeting in Berlin, we discussed questions like identifying the barriers to collecting data to calculate the total CO2 footprint of a finished polymer product and presented initial project results. For example, it appears to be particularly challenging for small- and medium-sized companies to efficiently integrate data into their production processes and use it to make decisions. The proprietary additives developed by Nemo Nanomaterials are based on single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) and can be mass produced in order to supplement a large range of parts. The company’s new production line will allow it to produce 50 tons of its NemoBLEND annually, while already planning a new facility that will allow it to produce hundreds of tons each year – expected to go online in 2025. Anode-free strategy is gaining more interest in recent years, due to its manufacturing simplicity and potential for high-energy-density batteries without safety compromise. However, the design constraints for anode-free batteries have been difficult to overcome.
