📰 News: 📰 🎉 Amazon's 30th Birthday: A Mixed Bag of Memories and Concerns 🚀 Can you believe Amazon is turning 30 this Friday? From a humble online bookstore run out of Jeff Bezos' garage to a $1.97 trillion tech giant, Amazon has evolved in ways none of us could have imagined. But let's pause for a moment and take a closer look. It's not all celebratory cake and balloons. Amazon has grown into a behemoth that knows almost everything about us, from our favorite cereal to our weekend plans. 📊 Here are some mind-blowing stats: - Amazon's net worth is a staggering $1.97 trillion. - The company has data on us that reaches far beyond our shopping habits, including our health issues and home temperatures. - Amazon's privacy policies have been rated as some of the worst by privacy researchers, contributing to an invasive data-driven advertising economy. As Jen Caltrider from Mozilla’s Privacy Not Included project puts it, "Privacy and free will are inextricably intertwined." So, as we celebrate Amazon's past, let's also question its future impact on our privacy rights. 👉 What are your thoughts on Amazon's journey? Drop a comment below and let's talk about how we can navigate this complex digital landscape together. Today was my last day as an Amazonian. My digital origin story, however, wouldn’t exist without Amazon. When I was in grad school, when the Internet hissed at you before it let you in and personal computers still existed in towers, I needed to buy a book that my campus bookstore just couldn’t keep in stock. A fellow student suggested that I buy it on Amazon.com, which he called “the world’s biggest bookstore”. Sure enough the book was there, and with some trepidation I bought it. A few days later, just as promised, the book showed up on my apartment doorstep. When I say a lightbulb went off, please picture me staring at this box on my doorstep with calculations over my head in a thought bubble as I said to myself, “This is going to change everything!” Every decision I made from that moment on, from what I studied to the career moves I made, were all about being part of the digital future. Amazon changed the trajectory of my career from just one book sale. So when I got the opportunity to interview to work for Amazon and work on Rings of Power (I’m a pretty big LOTR fan) it was an easy “yes, please”. With the hope that I could add streaming to my years of studio experience and live out my Middle-earth fandom, I prepared over three weekends for my Loop. And it has been an incredible three years as an Amazonian. During my time at Prime Video, I worked with incredibly brilliant and passionate Amazonians on the launch of the massively successful Season 1 of The Rings of Power, and then pivoted to leading global digital intelligence, bringing together local teams to create global synergies for social listening tooling. As I leave, I take with me many new relationships with amazing Amazonians - we’ve had big bar-raising wins, as well as a few losses where we’ve learned and grown. We’ve worked hard, laughed harder, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved. I leave with Ways of Working that have given me new perspectives and approaches to problem-solving. I carry with me deep respect for our Leadership Principles. The two that resonate most with me are Earn Trust and Invent and Simplify, especially the line, “As we do new things, we accept that we may be misunderstood for long periods of time.” I started a project nine years ago to preserve and celebrate the work that digital marketers do to promote Hollywood films. At the time, many people asked me why I was doing it - it seemed to them like a waste of time. Since then, Hollywood In Pixels has grown into a small, but beloved, organization within the digital community and beyond, with just me and a handful of volunteers spending a fraction of our time on it. This year the call to truly build it has gotten louder and now, armed with new Ways of Working, guiding Leadership Principles, and even more supportive relationships, I am taking that call. So, I suppose you can say Amazon has changed my life- twice. Thank you to all my colleagues at Prime Video and across Amazon for a magical three years.

As you might have seen, Amazon has just unleashed flat files in its BETA version. Think of new rows, new columns, and a whole new naming convention to name attributes. It's not just an update; it's a complete transformation of the backend's structure. And yes, I'm just as excited as you are to see the full version in action! Here is the Step-by-Step Guide on downloading the new beta category-specific files. I think the new flow is simple and clear, with the special AI twist that Amazon is integrating everywhere. Remember, this new flow isn't available for all accounts or product types just yet. But don't let that stop you! I've included an example of a product type already in the BETA so you can start testing and seeing what is new. Yesterday I was a flat file Queen, today I'm back to learning the new way. This game is everything but boring. #amazonseller #amazonupdates #amazoncatalog #flatfiles

When shopping on Amazon there is of course an option to “save for later”. I’m guessing the average person has lots and lots of items there. Wouldn’t it be cool if could notice a negative thought or obsessive thought and instead of it wreaking havoc on, could just save it for later?! You can! When using Thought Stopping or “Meta-cognitive “ techniques can actually learn to identify and acknowledge when obsessing and decide not to engage in those thoughts. Because they aren’t helpful! And bec you don’t want to. Can choose to get back to a thought. Can’t always just delete! But can save for later. Which means you don’t have to obsess and obsess or ruminate. And can instead decide to get busy and participate in something else. How many items is right now in your save for later ??

Best way to adapt with the introduction to Amazon Rufus The VP/Distinguished Scientist at Amazon Trishul Chilimbi wrote the article (link below) and stated: "From the beginning, our aim with Rufus was to train it primarily with shopping data — the entire Amazon catalogue, for starters, as well as customer reviews and information from community Q&A posts." We have in the past put some emphasis on the Q&A section of our clients product listings but now more than ever, it has shown it's significance with Rufus coming into play. If you think about it logically, it makes complete sense. Amazon is more likely to find credible what others say about your product than what you write on your listings. This has helped improve our clients exposure on Amazon and we have done so mainly through the Q&A section. https://lnkd.in/eCrU9jk5

Amazon-to-Google-to-Amazon #a2g2a: I've been posting my thoughts on boomeranging back to Amazon after working at Google as little LinkedIn posts here and there rather than a longer blog, because thoughts came to me sort of organically. But I've also been putting them together in my actual blog. Here's 4 little stories in Part 2 and 6 little stories in Part 1. #amazon #google
