9/24/24 12:15 MST Current flight map filtered to mostly only capture transport category aircraft.
This is what opportunity looks like.
Each aircraft represents an absolutely massive support team ranging from pilots, cabin attendants, ticketing agents, IT, security, dispatchers and schedulers, maintainers, cleaners and countless other quality careers.
Focusing on maintenance (I'm biased...)
In the next ten years we expect to see an average of at least 13,400 job openings for A&P technicians each year. Fully certificated A&P's are seeing starting wages north of 30/hour, and experienced techs moving into management or lead positions are seeing base salaries well over 100k. It only takes 18 months to complete an A&P course.
While other industries may offer higher initial pay, very few industries offer the growth that an A&P certificate and experience offer.
There is no industry in the world that does not benefit from aviation. Whether it is fast shipping of time sensitive items, or carrying passengers on their way to close a deal that will keep a factory open, aviation makes it possible. The absolute fact is that every single airplane will require a certificated technician's attention nearly every day. Aviation maintenance is a solid career choice in an ever changing AI fueled world.

Last September Macro Recruitment Ltd was retained by Atlantic Flight Training Academy for an Executive Search for a Chief Engineer. For the first time, I was conducting a search for a position I was uniquely qualified for myself. Driving to Cork I repeated to myself that I was visiting as a recruiter, however I was conscious of having renewed all my aeronautical licenses in recent years (just in case).
I have known Mark J Casey for many years and knew from following AFTA on social media that it was a very successful company. However, I really had no idea just what he had created in Cork in terms of scale and quality. A short time into the #executivesearch I agreed to cover the role on an interim basis. The conversation accelerated over a few weeks and by November I had accepted the position of Chief Engineer & CAMO Manager.

AFTA is one of the largest and most successful pilot training organisations in Europe, having trained in excess of 2,700 pilots for the world’s leading airlines. Being asked to lead the engineering team responsible for taking care of their ultra-modern training fleet of 22+ aircraft was an easy sell for AFTA to me; the challenge I didn’t know I needed! In fact, it’s a real privilege to be surrounded by the most exceptional aviators and aviation professionals in a truly world class company and training environment. Thank you Mark J Casey, Jennifer Davies and Atlantic Flight Training Academy
The opportunity for my own CPD is abundant also; my Multi Engine Piston flight test is scheduled for next week and Instrument Rating planned for the second half of the year.
AFTA is on it's way to becoming a global leader in low carbon, sustainable pilot training. Our second C172 G1000 aircraft is currently in Röder Präzision GmbH in Germany being retrofitted with a Continental diesel engine, the beginning of our transition to Sustainable Aviation Fuel. When I established Macro Recruitment I was advised that I should pick a niche for the business, something I avoided doing initially. Recently narrowing our scope towards engineering and aviation related roles resulted in this wonderful opportunity for me. In turn, we will now by default narrow our niche even further towards becoming a small, bespoke executive search and pilot #recruitment business for the aviation industry. It feels good to focus where my passion and expertise are. The advice made sense in the end.

I’ve seen a lot of posts about the Aviation Industry in need of a butt load of Aircraft Technicians due to an increased shortage. But the companies needing them ‘so badly’ throw your application away because you don’t have 4+ yrs experience but you’re willing to learn… Interesting.
I have an A&P, tools, some experience, want to learn and accel more but I’m not trying to relocate my whole family for employment. So in the grand scheme of things, I get overlooked and on to the next person who may be in the same situation and the sequence continues.
How does someone accrue the ‘required/preferred’ experience if they are never given a chance and stay at the bottom? Is there something wrong with wanting to learn so I have the experience employers are wanting just to ‘qualify’ as a candidate?
