As you may have already seen the Government published initial Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees at the end of last week. Although these fees are illustrative and likely to change, it marks another important milestone in bringing forward this regulation to the UK market https://lnkd.in/erdQRtg8 These initial fees have confirmed what we were anticipating in that EPR fees are likely to be significant and are also likely to vary significantly by packaging material (paper vs plastic etc.). With EPR fees due to be applied by October 2025, based on packaging supplied during 2024, the team here at Macfarlane Packaging Harlow and Sudbury are on hand to assist and can continue to offer real value to our customers in helping them prepare for this regulation and mitigate their future costs - not only through helping them understand the impact of the regulation but also by looking for packaging optimisation opportunities (reducing weight or changing materials) and assisting with clear and accurate reporting of packaging material and weights that we sell.
