IRC European Double Handed Championship - Preview 📰 This year’s IRC European Double Handed Championship will be decided over 750 miles of racing across two challenging long offshore races. French competitors vastly outnumbered all others for the inaugural edition last year. However, this year the tables have turned, with the British in the ascendancy, with almost double last year’s numbers entered. Didier Gaudoux and Gildas Morvan, who emerged as clear winners last year with back-to-back race wins on Lan Ael 3, are not returning to defend their title. Neither are the JPK10.10s that took places two and four. However, another 1010, Jean-André Hebel’s Les P'tits Doudous en Duo, was third last year and only two points short of taking the runners up position. The third and final Olympic equestrian event is Jumping. As with Dressage, Jumping, as a stand-alone competition is much more difficult than the jumping portion of the Eventing competition. These horses are highly trained to jump ever-increasing heights without touching or “dropping” a rail. Combative log balancing is an actual sport! Technique aside, I think shorter height would be an advantage in this competition, because the centre of gravity gets lowered! That's why the older guy seems more in control despite all the splashing the taller lad is trying. This sport is called birling, by the way! Popular in Canada and Northern USA. Gold again! Well done to Matt Wearn OAM / OLY . 8 years of global domination! In another Golden day for Australia it was so pleasing to see Matt back up his Gold in Tokyo with another Gold in France. But what a mental game it was with Matt’s Olympic final postponed for two days due to lack of wind and the his final race had two false starts due to the wind not playing ball. Yet every new start he came back and did it all again. Having sailed the ILCA (Laser Class) and had our boys sail them competitively we have witnessed Matt’s journey up close. What I can honestly say is this Gold is as much for his parents and family as it is for Matt. Being from WA this meant many km’s crossing Australia for many, many years plus more funding and travel for the international regattas. Trust me when I say the lower profile sports like sailing mean the family is funding 90% of it in terms of money, time and resources. (Some families call it Credit Card Racing). Hoping Matt and his wonderful coaching team (Michael Blackburn & Rafa Trujillo legends) and family can celebrate once again. As an FYI Australia has won the Gold in this class now for the last four Olympics starting with Tom Slingsby and then my good friend Tom Burton (who features in my book It’s All Possible) and then Matt for the last two. Pleasing also is Matt contracted Long Covid but managed his way out of it to win again. Keep dreaming, keep moving forward. Anything is Possible. #sailing #yachting #olympics #mindset

### Zola Budd vs. Mary Decker: A Collision Course Hey everyone, Remember the 1984 LA Olympics? The 3000-meter race was supposed to be epic with South Africa’s Zola Budd, running for Great Britain, going head-to-head with American champ Mary Decker. But it ended up being a total trainwreck. Here’s the lowdown: 1. **The Hype Train**: This race was billed as a clash of titans—Budd’s barefoot style against Decker’s world-class skills. Too bad it didn’t live up to the hype. 2. **Collision Course**: The two runners kept bumping into each other, and it wasn’t long before Decker hit the deck hard after a clash. She had to be carried off, which was a major bummer. 3. **Budd's Struggle**: Budd, who was visibly shaken by the incident, finished a lackluster 7th. Not exactly the performance everyone was expecting. 4. **Blame Game**: The media had a field day, pointing fingers at both runners. Budd took most of the heat, but an investigation later cleared her of blame. The crash wasn’t her fault after all. 5. **Decker’s Take**: Decker still blames her inexperience in pack running for the mishap. Sometimes it’s just one of those things that happen in sports. So there you have it—the race that was supposed to be a showdown ended up being a fiasco.
