Medicare is commonly thought of as a program for older adults. But it also covers younger people who have disabilities, as well as people who have kidney failure or ALS. People younger than 65 actually make up about 1 in 8 #Medicare beneficiaries. They also require a disproportionate amount of care, accounting for more than 17% of all Medicare spending. It’s unfortunate, but the reality of healthcare today is challenging, especially for seniors. Many don’t fully understand the system they’re navigating, and that’s where I want to step in and make a difference. My goal is not only to educate seniors on how to effectively use their healthcare but also to connect them with the resources they need. Whether it’s healthcare programs, social services, housing options, meals, or durable medical equipment, seniors need guidance. The truth is, many don’t even know what insurance they have or what’s covered under it. That’s where we can help—by providing them with the right information and tools to make better decisions. I believe in being a partner to the senior community, helping them navigate the complicated systems and giving them access to the resources they deserve. It’s about empowering them to take control of their healthcare and ensuring they don’t feel lost in the process. How are we making sure our seniors are fully supported? 💬 Let’s talk about how we can better assist our senior communities. 🔄 Share this post if you think seniors deserve better support in navigating their healthcare! #SeniorSupport #HealthcareForSeniors #HealthcareNavigation #EmpowerSeniors #SeniorWellbeing

Last week I had the pleasure of joining a stellar group of panelists at Families USA's conference in a discussion about health care affordability. Here are a few takeaways from the conversation with Brian Connell, Ilyse Schuman, Rushika Fernandopulle, and Sophia Tripoli, MPH. 1) It’s clear that voters want policymakers to take action to lower their health care costs, following an election that focused on pocketbook issues. Americans are struggling to afford the rising cost of basic needs like food, housing, and health care. The high and arbitrary prices that powerful hospital monopolies are charging for care are a threat to families’ economic security and need to be addressed. They depress workers’ wages, leave more than 100 million Americans with medical debt and, result in far too many people skipping or delaying the care they need. 2) Improving health care affordability has bipartisan support and is an area where there’s a real opportunity to make progress this year. Commonsense solutions like enacting comprehensive site-neutral payment reforms to ensure patients pay the same price for routine care regardless of where they get it, banning hospital facility fees, and improving price and billing transparency are supported by large majorities of voters and already have bipartisan support in Congress. It’s time to build on the progress that’s been made and get them done. 3) These solutions are a win-win-win. They would lower health care costs for American families, employers, and taxpayers and create a fairer and more transparent health care system. There’s a lot of focus on reducing government spending right now. These proposals are an opportunity to lower spending by reducing the price people are paying for care and making health care more affordable, not by shifting costs or reducing coverage or benefits.
