Managing Director at Bespoke Careers NY | Architect. Career Advisor. Recruitment Leader | I help to connect jobseekers & employers within architecture & design
I had a fascinating call last week with a client who is setting up a new office in New York. There are so many things to consider when starting a new venture! We talked at length on what makes a competitive benefits package. Here's a breakdown of some key considerations: 1. Health & Wellness: ✔ Comprehensive health insurance: Offer plans with low deductibles and strong provider networks. Consider vision and dental coverage as well. ✔ Mental health resources: Provide access to Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) or health plans with strong mental health coverage. ✔ Wellness programs: Consider gym memberships, on-site fitness classes, or wellness stipends to encourage healthy habits. 2. Financial Security & Flexibility: ✔ Competitive salaries: Research NYC salary trends for architects and designers at various experience levels. Don't underestimate the power of a competitive base salary. ✔ Retirement savings plans: Offer a 401(k) with employer matching contributions to incentivize saving for the future. ✔ Student loan repayment assistance: This is a major perk for young architects and designers burdened by student loans. 3. Work-Life Balance & Well-Being: ✔ Paid time off (PTO): Offer a generous amount of PTO, including vacation days, sick leave, and personal days. ✔ Flexible work arrangements: Consider remote work options, compressed workweeks, or flexible start and end times to cater to diverse needs. ✔ Parental leave: Offer paid parental leave for new mothers and fathers, exceeding the minimum required by law. 4. Professional Development & Growth: ✔ Continuing education programs: Provide financial support or time off for employees to pursue relevant certifications or attend industry conferences. ✔ Mentorship programs: Pair experienced architects with junior staff to foster knowledge sharing and career development. Economic uncertainty is making things tough for architecture and design firms. As a recruiter who has worked in this industry for a while, I've seen the challenges firsthand. We need to find ways to help our businesses stay strong during these difficult times. Let's explore some strategies that can help your firm thrive: Hire people who can handle change and learn new things quickly. Train your team and give them new challenges to keep them growing. Look for opportunities to move talented people around within your firm. Find great people without spending a fortune. Make your firm a great place to work so people want to stay. Show off your company culture and the exciting projects you work on. Let people know your company cares about its employees. Be ready to adjust quickly as project needs change. Economic downturns are temporary, but building resilience is a strategic advantage. Let's work together to navigate these challenging times. #3pcareers #architecture #interiordesign #civilengineering #landdevelopment #landscapearchitecture #designprofessionals #designcareers #designjobs #careers #hr #opportunities #REVIT #adobe

Have you been following my recent blog series on protection for the architects' title and architects' salaries? I've had some great feedback from architects - both in the form of emails from subscribers and comments on social media platforms - and I collated some of them into this article, which is Part 3 in the series. If you'd like to find out how your salary compares with others - within architecture, across the construction sector, and with other 5+ year degree professions - you may want to read this! Thanks to those architects who shared their insights and experiences, so that architects don't have to feel alone in having these concerns. The next part sets out architecture's magic bullet - the one thing that can turn this situation around, so be sure to subscribe to my emails to get that and future updates... https://lnkd.in/gy7HGD6D #architecture #australianarchitects #architecturesalaries #architecturefees #architectspay

7 years deep into the world of truss design, split between the office hustle and the remote work life. I've honed my skills, tackled complex projects, and adapted to the ever-evolving industry. But here's the million-dollar question: How do successful truss designers expand their roles and climb the career ladder? I'm curious to know how you've navigated salary negotiations, secured promotions, and taken on new challenges. Any tips on transitioning from a technical role to a leadership position? . #trussdesign #structuralengineering #careeradvice #remotework #worklifebalance #engineeringlife
