CIBSE Routes to Registration Update: *New Experience Route* Hi Everyone, I kindly received the good news below from Ella Sumner (CIBSE Networks and Engagement Manager). CIBSE is pleased to announce the launch of our new Experience Route to gain Registration. This innovative pathway offers a faster, more cost-effective way for professionals to achieve CIBSE membership and professional registration. It values practical experience as much as academic qualifications. The Experience Route is designed for working professionals in the field of engineering, with 2-5 years of experience, who may not have an accredited degree or recognised qualification. Key Benefits of the Experience Route include: 1) Practical recognition: CIBSE recognises your real-world experience and values your contributions to industry. 2) Faster process: Become a member in as little as four months. 3) Cost-effective: Save on costs while achieving professional status and recognition. 4) Career advancement: Enhance your professional credentials and career prospects without the need for a lengthy academic journey. 5) Inclusive opportunity: This route is open to all experienced professionals, regardless of academic background, ensuring equal opportunities for advancement. Further information on the changes is at www.cibse.org/registration and included below: 1) The previous ‘alternative’ route has been streamlined so that applicants can now obtain membership and registration with one application and interview. Standard route has been renamed Academic route and Alternative route is now Experience route. 2) The MCIBSE, ACIBSE, LCIBSE and FCIBSE Application Guidance has been updated by referencing the Academic and Experience routes. 3) The Qualification Assessment webpage and application have been removed as qualifications are now assessed when an applicant applies. Q: Who is an Experience Route Applicant? 1) Academic Route: The applicant should hold a Bachelor’s degree for IEng. Typically, the applicant will need a Master's degree in engineering (MEng) or a Bachelor’s degree (BEng) plus a relevant Master’s degree for CEng. If you hold this level of qualification, then apply via the Academic route and CIBSE will check your qualifications. 2) Experience Route: If the applicant does not have the level of degree required, then the applicant can gain IEng or CEng by demonstrating technical knowledge gained through their professional experience. Q: How does an Experience Route Applicant apply? 1) Apply for either ACIBSE or MCIBSE by using the same normal application as Academic route applicants. The applicant will need to upload their completed IEng or CEng Experience template in the application. It will emphasize preparing reports due on May 31, 2024 that effectively communicate gains realized in student learning outcomes. This spring, the focus is on reporting results of the assessment methods, including analysis of the collected data, preparing action plans, and documenting evidence of continuous improvement. This session is designed to be a highly practical, hands-on training, so participants are encouraged to bring their laptops/tablets with a draft document of their report. Dr. Olson will be available after the workshop for individual consultation as needed. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend the session that best fits the program they assess. 887,000 A Level exam entries this year, up 80,000 since 2019. This compares to 7,380 T Level results today. Seems inevitable the negative approach to BTECs, and T Levels being great but niche (very specialised), means A Levels will continue to prosper at expense of both as safer option. If anything, T Levels seem to have confirmed A Levels as the dominant qualification route for anyone doing well at GCSE? The pause and review therefore very sensible from DfE if our aim is to enhance appeal of technical education
